CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Montevallo men's soccer team fell to 1-1 in conference play after falling to Lee, 1-0, on the road on Sunday afternoon.
The Flames were out on the attack early and often forcing sophomore
Tomas Valles Gilbert make his first two saves of the day inside the first 11 minutes.
Montevallo was able to work the ball down the field for a
Nick Morrow shot that missed out left in the 21
stminute before the Flames were quicly back on the offensive, forcing a third Falcon save in the 24
th minute.
A Falcon corner kick in the 36
th minute proved to be Montevallo's best chance at scoring a first-half goal with
Joshua Owens sending a shot on frame that was stopped by the Lee keeper.
Lee's relentless attack continued in the second half, forcing two team saves from Falcon defenders in the first 15 minutes of the half.
The left hand of a diving Valles Gilbert kept the game knotted at 0-0 in 70
th minute for the sophomore's seventh save of the game. Just six minutes later, the sophomore made another impeccable save to keep Montevallo within striking distance.
Lee scored the game's first goal in the 77
th minute, leaving the Falcons in a 1-0 hole.
The Falcons controlled the ball for the final ten minutes of the match but, despite headers from
Brock Barbee and
Renzo Bozzo, could not find the equalizer before time expired.
