MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo women's soccer heads into the second weekend of the season with matchups against West Alabama and Nova Southeastern on the horizon.

So far this season:
The Falcons have started the season in dominant fashion, outscoring their first wo opponents by a combined score of 10-1. Montevallo opened the season with a clean sheet against Kentucky Wesleyan highlight by six different goal scorers in the Falcons' 6-0 victory. UM followed up with another dominant road win with a 4-1 victory over Trevecca Nazarene. The Falcons' defense played 183 scoreless minutes before Trevecca added a goal late on Saturday afternoon.
Montevallo also saw a pair of Falcons honored with the first 2023 Gulf South Conference weekly awards,
Madeline Milby and
Lainey Farabaugh. Milby was named Defender of the Week after scoring one goal and added three assists in 180 minutes of action in the Falcons' backline. Farabaugh was named Freshman of the Week after scoring her first career goal against Ky. Wesleyan and recording her first career assist against TNU.
Scouting West Alabama:
West Alabama comes into the in-state, non-conference matchup with an 0-2-1 record after falling to Saint Leo, 1-0, on Wednesday, Sept. 6 and Clayton State, 1-0, on Sept. 3. West Alabama opened the season with a draw on the road at Tusculum. The Tigers completed 2022 with a 10-5-3 overall record with a 9-3-1 mark against conference opponents.
Scouting Nova Southeastern:
Nova comes into Montevallo with a 1-0-1 record after opening the season with a dominant 6-0 win over Thomas More before drawing with Saint Anselm, 1-1, on Sept. 3. NSU finished the 2022 campaign with a 9-3-4 record overall and a 6-1-3 conference record after making an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
Series History Against West Alabama:
The Falcons have never come out on top in games against in-state rival West Alabama with an 0-4-3 all-time record. In each of the last three meetings, the two sides have ended with a draw. The previous two matchups have ended in scoreless draws.
Series History Against Nova Southeastern:
The only time these two programs have met was in the first round of the 2019 NCAA National Championship when the Sharks topped Montevallo, 2-1, following Montevallo's 2019 GSC Championship.

Montevallo's offense is led by forward
Kaeri Ward with her team-high two goals on three shots on goal in the first two games of the year. Milby leads the Falcons with three assists while
Miranda Fragoso tallied a pair of assists over the weekend. Montevallo's defense has been dominant through two games allowing just six shots total.
West Alabama is highlighted by sophomore Venla Makela who scored both of West Alabama's goals to start the season while Aileen Charles has one assist.
Nova Southeastern boasts four goal scorers through two games. Luana Grabias leads the team with three while Maja Henriksson sits in second with two goals. Jordyn Pitter and Tabea Schutt each have scored one goal while Pitter holds the lone assist on the squad.
