Montevallo Set for the UAH Invitational

MONTEVALLO, Ala – The University of Montevallo volleyball is set for their trip to Huntsville, Ala. for the UAH Invitational on Sept. 8-9 hosted by the University of Alabama in Huntsville. 

Last Time Out
Montevallo is coming off a trip to Tyler, Tx. where they went 0-4 against some of the best competition in the country. They opened the season against UT Tyler who received votes in the preseason poll and were swept 0-3. Their next match was against Harding University who also received votes and is now ranked 25th in division II, and they were also able to defeat the Falcons.

On Sept. 2, Montevallo started the day against another tough opponent in Dallas Baptist, another school who received votes in the AVCA DII poll, and fell to the Patriots. UM ended the road trip with a highly competitive match against St. Edward's but the Falcons fell to the Hilltoppers.

About Montevallo
The Falcons are led by Brooklyn Hudson who has the most kills on the team with 24. The second year outside hitter is averaging 2.18 kills per set and has the second most attacks on the team with 83. 

Casey Hendrixson is off to a great start in her senior season as she leads the Falcons with 37 digs. Hendrixson moved to fifth all-time in career digs and is looking for her third straight season of 500 plus digs. 

Colton Thompson kicked off her junior year with two double-doubles last weekend in assists and digs. The setter had 55 assists combined in all four games and has a double-digit assist total in all four games this season.

Scouting Barry
The Falcons will open the UAH Invitational against 12th ranked Barry University on Friday, Sept. 8 at 2:30 p.m. Barry is 1-0 against the Falcons all-time with the last matchup coming in 2018. BU is 1-1 on the season as they beat Flagler College in their first match of the season but lost to 17th ranked Washburn University 0-3.

The Buccaneer's are led by Diana Akopova who leads Barry with 47 kills and has 23 digs in two matches played. Varvara Osychenko is second on the team with 24 kills and combined the duo has 174 attacks. 

Ana Perez has the most digs for the Buccaneer's with 27 while she also has eight assists.

Scouting Anderson
The Falcons will play two matches on the second day of the invitational, the first coming against Anderson University at 10:00 a.m. on Sept. 9. The Trojans come in with a perfect 5-0 record and their last win coming against conference rival Newberry College in a 3-0 sweep on Sept. 5. Anderson has a 1-0 record against the Falcons all-time with the lone game coming last season on Aug. 27.

Anderson has firepower from multiple players on offense as they have four players with over 30 kills while they are led by Jaelyn Grimm who has 41 on the season. The Trojans are hitting at a .283 clip and they are second in the South Atlantic Conference with 240 kills.

Scouting Trevecca Nazarene 
Montevallo will take on Trevecca Nazarene in the second match on Sept. 9 at 2:30 p.m. The Trojans are 3-2 on the season and are coming off a 3-0 sweep of Lane College on Sept. 5. TNU is 1-1 against Montevallo all-time with the Falcons winning the most recent matchup last year on Sept. 2 in a 3-0 sweep.

TNU is led by the duo of Maddie Wilds and Emma Titus who had 47 and 45 kills respectively. Emilee McDonald is fifth in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference with 125 assists while she adds 31 digs and 16 kills on the season.
