WBB Falls To AUM On the Road

Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Montevallo women's basketball fell on the road for just the third time this season following a 65-50 loss to Auburn Montgomery on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Falcons fell behind quickly with AUM jumping out to a 7-2 lead with a 7-0 Warhawk run to start the game. Sophomore Savannah Cook ended the scoring run with her first triple of the game before A.K. Eastman answered an AUM three with one of her own. With the Falcons trailing 13-8, Eastman's first block of the season forced an AUM turnover which led to a Cali Smallwood triple that looked to spark a Montevallo run. UM couldn't find the bottom of the net in the final 2:22 of the first and trailed 18-11 heading into the first break. 
 
Montevallo's scoreless streak continued until Lia Edwards recorded her first points at the 8:21 mark of the second quarter. AUM opened a 24-15 lead before Eastman knocked down back-to-back triples to cut the lead down to just three in 46 seconds. Montevallo's offense struggled closing the half with a 5:17 scoreless stretch before a Cook three with left the Falcons trailing 33-24 at the half.
 
UM turned it over on three-straight possessions to start the second half, leading to a 39-24 AUM lead. Isabel Grimes got on the board for the first time in the game with a triple to end the AUM run at the 7:20 mark. Marisa Snodgrass added her first points of the game at the 5:36 mark before the Warhawks answered each of the Falcons' buckets down the stretch. Montevallo trailed 51-34 heading into the final stanza. 
 
The Warhawks took its largest lead of the day at 19 points with a 5-0 run to start the fourth quarter. Eastman set a career-high in points with a pull-up jumper with 7:00 minutes remaining but the Falcons still trailed by 15. Eastman added a fifth triple on the day for another career best, but Montevallo couldn't overcome the deficit in the closing stages. The Falcons fell on the road for just the third time this season with a 65-50 loss to AUM.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST | The Falcons' offense struggled in the opening ten minutes shooting 4-for-13 from the field with a trio of threes for a 30.8 percent shooting mark. Savannah Cook lead the way for UM with five points in the first. 
2ND | Montevallo matched its first quarter shooting with a 4-for-13 overall mark and a 3-for-9 mark from range while AUM knocked down 7-of-8 free throws to take a nine-point lead into the break. 
3RD | UM shot just 26.7 percent in the third while allowing the Warhawks to shoot 53.3 percent from the floor. 
4TH | The Falcon offense found a bit of a rhythm in the fourth with a 6-for-15 shooting mark and a 4-for-9 line from beyond the arc. Despite the fourth being the highest-scoring UM quarter, Montevallo fell 65-50.
 
GAME NOTES
  • A.K. Eastman had a career day with 19 points on 7-of-18 shooting while going 5-for-12 from three-point range for career-highs in points and threes. 
  • Montevallo shot the ball well from range with a 37.5 percent mark from outside but an 18-for-56 mark from the field tallied just 32.1 percent overall. 
  • The Falcons were outrebounded 45-21 with AUM dominating the paint at 36-6 points in the paint advantage.
