Box Score MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo men's basketball team dropped a road contest in Pensacola, Florida, Saturday, Jan. 6, 83-71.
Montevallo held a lead five times and by as many as 11 in the contest but a 16-4 run over the final 5:52 for West Florida gave the Falcons their 10
th loss of the year.
The Falcons opened the first half on a roll, shooting 4-of-4 to start with an 11-0 run. UWF responded, however, with a 14-0 run of its own to take the lead, 14-11. With 4:51 to go in the half, junior Cam Glover ignited a 15-5 closing run for UM with a jumper. Graduate transfer
Jack Henderson capped the run with a three-pointer 13 seconds before halftime to cut the deficit to one, 42-41.
Montevallo opened the second half in control and eventually took a seven-point lead, 58-51 after sophomore
Charlie Champagne drained three three-pointers on a 9-0 run for the Falcons. West Florida cut into UM's lead and tied the contest, 67-67. With 5:52 to go, West Florida's offense exploded to close the game on a 16-4 run.
Four Falcons scored in double-figures as
Jaylen Curry led the way with 22 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1st | Montevallo opened the first half a perfect 4-for-4 from the field to lead 11-0 after just 2:09 into the game. UWF responded with a 14-0 score to take the lead. Over the course of the first half there were six lead changes. Montevallo largest lead was 11 while UWF pushed its lead to 11, 37-36, with 5:13 to play. The Falcons closed the final 4:51 of the first half on a 15-5 run to trail 42-41 at the break.
2nd | Following several lead changes in the second half, Montevallo took a seven-point lead, 58-51, following three three-pointers from
Charlie Champagne. Tied 67-67 with 5:52 to play, UWF used a 5-0 run to jump in front, 72-67. UM's
Jaylen Curry ended the nearly two-minute scoring drought with a hook shot at the 3:59 mark, making the score 72-69.
GAME NOTES
- Montevallo was shooting 11-of-21 from three-pointer range midway through the second half but missed its final nine attempts.
- West Florida shot 50 percent from the field while the Falcons turned in a 43.1 percent field-goal percentage.
- Jaylen Curry scored a team-high 22 points to lead a group of four-players in double-figures.
- Montevallo is 0-8 on the road.
