Box Score PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Montevallo men's soccer team fell in a tight battle to West Florida 2-1 on Friday night.
Both teams gained momentum early, as the Argonauts fired the first shot on goal in the fifth minute which was saved by
Tomas Valles Gilbert.
Cristobal Porter responded with UM's first shot on goal 14 seconds later.
Seth Acton and
Hugo Cakurda fired the next shots on goal of the half in the ninth minute.
West Florida began to take control, recording the next six shots of the game, before finally getting one in the back of the net in the 39
th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Valles recorded back-to-back saves in the final minutes of the first half to keep the deficit at just one goal going into the break.
Montevallo started the second half slow and the Argonauts added to its lead in the 58
th minute with another lead, extending the UWF lead to 2-0.
Montevallo's first shot on goal of the second half proved to be successful as
Jens Krieger scored his first goal as a Falcon in the 73
rd minute to cut the deficit to 2-1.
The Falcons were unable to find a shot attempt throughout the remainder of the game, as the Argonauts secured the 2-1 victory in Pensacola.
