MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo men's soccer team is set to play its first ranked opponent of the 2024 campaign, hosting #21 Auburn Montgomery on Friday.
So Far This Season…
Montevallo enters the contest with an overall record of 5-4-2 and a 3-3 mark in GSC play.
The Falcons opened the season with a 3-3 draw at Catawba and a 1-0 win over Belmont Abbey. Montevallo returned home and defeated Carson-Newman 4-2, before drawing with Lander 1-1. The Falcons suffered its first loss of the season on Sept. 18, falling on the road to Anderson 5-1. Montevallo opened conference play with a pair of contests at home, defeating Trevecca Nazarene 3-0 and falling to Lee 3-0. Montevallo followed that up with wins over West Alabama (1-0) and Alabama Huntsville (3-1).
The Falcons dropped a pair of road contests against West Florida (2-1) and Spring Hill (2-0) last weekend.
As a team, Montevallo has scored 18 goals and fired 145 shots with 68 being on goal. The Falcons have also recorded 16 assists, 63 saves, and 48 corner kicks. The Falcons lead the GSC in saves, while UM ranks in the top five in multiple statistical categories including, goals, shots, shots on goal, points, and assists.
Individually,
Cristobal Porter leads the Falcons in goals (four), assists (six), points (14), shots (40), shots on goal (17), and game winners (two).
Mark Shoebridge has also been solid for UM, recording three goals and two assists. In goal, Tomas Valles has tallied 60 saves and 19 goals against. The Falcon goalkeeper leads the GSC in saves and saves per game, while tying for second in shutouts.

Auburn Montgomery enters the matchup 5-1-5 overall and 3-1-2 in GSC play. AUM opened the season with wins over Saint Leo and Tampa, before closing non-conference play with three-consecutive draws (Clayton State, Carson-Newman, and Lander).
AUM opened up GSC play 3-0, picking up wins over Lee, Trevecca Nazarene, and Alabama Huntsville. The Warhawks followed that up with a pair of 2-2 draws against West Alabama and West Florida. AUM suffered its first loss of the season on Sunday, falling at West Florida 2-1.
Benjamin Hoffman has a team-leading five goals, while Landon Surratt has a team-leading six assists. In goal, William Blake and Alfie Rule have split time, playing in six games each. Blake (2-1-3) has recorded 21 saves and six goals against, while Rule (3-0-2) has tallied 13 saves and three goals against.
Series History Against Auburn Montgomery:
The Falcons and Warhawks have faced off 19 times, with AUM holding an 11-8 advantage in the series. The last time these two squads faced off, AUM captured a 3-1 win in Montgomery. The last Montevallo win came in 2021, as UM earned a 1-0 road victory. The last UM victory at home in this series came in 2018.
