Falcons Head Out for Final Conference Games

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo women's soccer heads south for the final pair of Gulf South Conference games at West Florida and Spring Hill.
 
So Far This Season…
Montevallo heads into the week's matchups with a 9-3-1 overall record and an 8-2 mark in conference play. The Falcons opened the season with a 1-1-1 record in the non-conference slate with a win over Kentucky Wesleyan and a draw with No. 9 Catawba. Montevallo opened the GSC schedule with wins over Auburn Montgomery and Valdosta State at home before heading to West Alabama and Alabama Huntsville for a pair of GSC road wins. The Falcons moved to 5-0 in GSC play with a 5-0 win over Christian Brothers before suffering just the second loss of the season to Union, 1-0, on Oct. 5. Jake Wyman's squad rebounded with a 2-0 win over Mississippi College before adding a 1-0 win over Delta State on Oct. 12. Last week, Montevallo fell to Lee, 1-0, at home before topping Trevecca Nazarene, 3-0, on Oct. 19.
 
The Falcons rank second in the conference with a total of 26 goals for a 2.00 scoring average through 13 games. Montevallo's 205 shots also rank second in the league with UM's 86 corners the second-most in the GSC. Montevallo leads the GSC with a total of 24 assists on the season. Montevallo's defense is also one of league's leaders with just nine goals allowed for an average of 0.69 goals per game. The Falcons' seven shutouts rank second among conference leaders.
 
Montevallo's attack is led by sophomore Isabel Dillehay and junior Shadia Valenzuela who have each scored six goals in 2024 while adding two assists for a total of 14 points. Morgan Goehring leads the Falcons' assists with five on the season while Rilee Bradbury and Raylene Alcaraz have recorded four apiece. Defensively, Emily Hounsell leads the GSC with seven shutouts and ranks second with a .692 goals against average through 13 games.
 
Scouting West Florida: WATCH | LIVE STATS
West Florida heads into Wednesday's matchup with a 10-1-2 record as the No. 8 team in the United Soccer Coaches National Poll. In the early going, West Florida posted a 2-1-1 record with wins over Southwest Minnesota State and No. 21 Lynn. The Argos opened league play with a 3-1 win over Mississippi College before adding a 3-0 win over Delta State. UWF took down Spring Hill before drawing with Trevecca, 1-1, on the road. The Argos responded with a 2-0 win over Lee before topping Valdosta State and Auburn Montgomery. Last weekend, West Florida added a 5-0 win over Christian Brothers on Oct. 18 before dropping Union, 3-0 on Oct. 20.
 
West Florida leads the GSC with a total of 31 goals through 13 games for an average of 2.385 goals per game while also leading with 246 shots. The Argos also lead the conference in scoring with 84 total points while adding 22 assists to their 31 goals. West Florida is the conference's top defense with eight shutouts on the season and just seven goals allowed in 13 outings.
 
West Florida's attack is led by Mya Swinton with a league-high eight goals while adding four assists for a total of 20 points. Emma Beltz follows closely with five goals and five assists for a total of 15 points. The Argos defense is led by Maciah Lipsey with 1,096 minutes in goal with eight shutouts and just seven goals allowed on 53 shots faced.
 
Series History Against West Florida:
The Falcons have historically struggled against the Argonauts with a 4-27-2 record. Montevallo's last win over West Florida came on Nov. 9, 2007, with a 2-0 win in the post season. The Falcons' last draw came on Nov. 15, 2019, during the NCAA post season. Since then, Montevallo has fallen in three-consecutive games with a 2-0 loss in Montevallo, Ala. on Oct. 6, 2023, being the most recent contest.
 
Scouting Spring Hill: WATCH | LIVE STATS
Spring Hill holds a 6-6-2 overall record and a 3-4-2 mark heading into the weekend matchup. Spring Hill opened the season with a 2-2 record in the nonconference slate with wins over Faulkner and Barry and losses to Edward Waters and Palm Beach Atlantic. To open GSC action, SHC drew with Delta State and Mississippi College before falling to No. 16 West Florida, 3-2, on Sept. 30. Spring Hill dropped a game to Lee, 3-0, before adding wins over Trevecca Nazarene and Auburn Montgomery. SHC dropped consecutive games again to Valdosta State and Union before topping Christian Brothers, 3-1, in Memphis, Tenn. on Oct. 20.
 
The Badgers' offense ranks seventh in the GSC with a total of 20 goals and 14 assists for 54 total points. SHC's defense has allowed 21 goals on the season for an opponent scoring average of 1.50 goals per game. Spring Hill has won four shutout games on the season to rank fourth among GSC leaders.
 
Individually, Poppy Binding ranks second among GSC leaders with seven goals while adding three assists for a total of 17 points on the season. Binding leads the squad in both categories. Sofia Jimenez Garcia ranks second on the squad with three goals for a total of 12 points. In the net, Carlotta Stark has played all of 13 games this season with a .744 save percentage of 169 shots faced while recorded three clean sheets.
 
Series History Against Spring Hill:
Montevallo has dominated the series with Spring Hill since it began in 1995. With a 13-1-2 record, Montevallo is unbeaten against the Badgers in the last 14 contests. The Falcons won five-straight games before a 1-1 tie a season ago on Oct. 8, 2023, ended the winning streak.
