PENSACOLA, Fla. – Montevallo women's soccer used a late penalty kick goal to tie No. 8 West Florida, 1-1, on the road.
The Falcons fell behind in the first ten minutes of action with an Argonaut goal scored just 9:15 into the contest. Montevallo struggled to stave off the UWF attack in the early going with another Argonaut shot on goal coming in the 22
nd minute but a sure handed save from
Emily Hounsell kept the Falcons within reach. The Falcons found their footing offensively with late shots from
Katelynn Kott and
Hannah Payne but trailed 1-0 heading into the half.
Out of the half, Montevallo earned its first corner kick of the night but couldn't convert the scoring chance in the 55
th minute. Following a Falcon yellow card just three minutes later, West Florida looked to extend its lead, but the top woodwork held the game's score to 1-0. Montevallo's first shot on goal came from the foot of junior
Bear Bradbury in the 64
th minute. Sophomore defender
Tessa Harrington was inches away from tying the game in the 67
th minute but a team save from UWF held the slimmest of leads. Hounsell was put to the test again in the 77
th minute and came up with a big save and defended the ensuing corner. Back-to-back shots on goal from
Morgan Goehring and
Katelynn Kott in the 79
th minute nearly broke the Argonauts defense. With exactly five minutes left in the game, Montevallo drew a penalty. Montevallo's leading goal scorer
Isabel Dillehay found the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1. Montevallo held on in the final five minutes to gain a point in the league table and move to 8-2-1 in GSC play.
