MOBILE, Ala. – Montevallo women's soccer closed the Gulf South Conference schedule with a 1-0 win over Spring Hill on the road.
SHC looked to score early with the first shot of the game in the third minute but the Badgers' shot missed wide left. Graduate goalkeeper
Emily Hounsell kept the game knotted at 0-0 in the ninth minute with their lone save of the day. The game turned into a defensive battle for the next 15 minutes with
Summer Burress firing Montevallo's first shot of the afternoon in the 24
th minute. Freshman forward
Katelynn Kott nearly gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead in the 27
th minute but an SHC save kept the game scoreless. In the 31
st minute,
Rilee Bradbury fired Montevallo's second shot on goal but remained scoreless. With just one more shot from either side in the final 14 minutes, the game went to the halftime break in a scoreless 0-0 tie.
Shadia Valenzuela took the first shot of the second half at the 51-minute mark and then added another just one minute later. Spring Hill added back-to-back shots in the 55
th minute but the Falcon defense held strong. For the second time in the game, another 15 minutes went by without a shot from either side. Montevallo's
Lainey Farabaugh capitalized on a UM penalty kick and gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead with 26 minutes remaining. Montevallo looked to add to the lead with a trio of shots from
Isabel Dillehay and
Summer Burress but three SHC saves denied Montevallo another goal. Montevallo added a pair of shots on goal in the final 11 minutes but came away with a 1-0 road victory to close the conference schedule.

- Lainey Farabaugh's penalty kick goal in the 64th minute is just the third Montevallo PK goal of the season.
- Emily Hounsell continues to be the GSC's top goalkeeper with a league-leading eight shutouts.
