MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo men's soccer team closed the 2024 home slate on Sunday afternoon, falling to Christian Brothers 3-1.
Christian Brothers opened the game on the attack, firing its first shot 30 seconds into the game.
Hugo Cakurda earned the first shot of the game for the Falcons in the fourth minute. The Bucs continued to push, firing the next three shots.
Andre Etcheverry recorded his first save of the game in the ninth minute to keep the Bucs off the board.
Montevallo responded a minute later as
Mark Shoebridge found
Cristobal Porter who scored his fifth goal of the season to put the Falcons ahead 1-0 in the tenth minute.
Christian Brothers found a goal of its own in the 13
th minute to tie the score at one.
Montevallo looked to respond as
Joshua Owens fired a shot on goal 30 seconds later, but it was saved by the CBU keeper. Etcheverry continued to put in the work in goal in his second career start, notching a pair of saves in the next few minutes to keep the game even at one.
Jens Krieger fired one more shot on goal for the Falcons in the 20
th minute, which was once again saved by the CBU keeper. Neither team would fire a shot on goal for the remainder of the half, as the score remained 1-1 at the break.
CBU continued to push, firing the first shot on goal of the second half in the 57
th minute, which was saved by Etcheverry. The Bucs ultimately got the ball back in the box and found the back of the net 15 seconds later, putting CBU ahead 2-1.
Montevallo fired its first and only shot on goal of the second half in the 72
nd minute, which came off the foot of
Nick Morrow.
Christian Brothers continued to hold possession and found one more goal in the 85
th minute to extend its lead to 3-1. The Falcons could not build a response in the final minutes, as Christian Brothers took home the win.
