MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo men's soccer team continues conference play this weekend with a road contest at West Alabama on Friday, before hosting Alabama Huntsville on Sunday.
So Far This Season…
Montevallo enters this weekend with an overall record of 3-2-2, along with a 1-1 mark in GSC play.
The Falcons got off to a hot start, going undefeated through the first four contests of the season. UM opened the season with a 3-3 draw at Catawba and 1-0 win over Belmont Abbey. The Falcons returned home and defeated Carson-Newman 4-2, before drawing with Lander 1-1. The Falcons suffered its first loss of the season on Sept. 18, falling on the road to Anderson 5-1.
Montevallo opened conference play last weekend with a pair of contests at home. A strong effort propelled UM to a 3-0 win over Trevecca Nazarene in the GSC opener. The Falcons fell to Lee 3-0 to close the weekend.
As a team, Montevallo has scored 13 goals and fired 102 shots with 47 being on goal. The Falcons have also recorded 12 assists, 34 saves and 32 corner kicks. The Falcons lead the GSC in saves and rank in the top five in multiple statistical categories including shots, shots on goal, points, goals, and assists.
Individually,
Mark Shoebridge leads Montevallo in goals with three on the season.
Cristobal Porter leads the team and the conference in assists with five. The redshirt freshman also leads the GSC in shots and ranks in the top-three in shots on goal and points. In goal,
Tomas Valles Gilbert has recorded 32 saves and 14 goals against. The goalkeeper earned his second clean sheet of the season against Trevecca Nazarene last week.

West Alabama enters the matchup with an overall record of 3-2-2 and a 1-1-1 mark in GSC play. The Tigers opened the season with a pair of contests in Florida, defeating Eckerd 2-0 and drawing with Florida Southern 1-1. The Tigers closed non-conference action with a 1-0 win over Palm Beach Atlantic and a 2-0 loss at Carson-Newman. UWA opened the conference slate falling to Lee 3-1, before picking up a 1-1 draw with Trevecca Nazarene. The Tigers most recently captured a 2-0 win over Spring Hill last Friday.
The Tigers have been strong on the defensive end, accounting for the second most saves, second-best save percentage, and the third-best goals against average. Timon Dressel has played every minute for UWA recording 32 saves and seven goals against in seven games. Dressel has also recorded three shutouts this season. Offensively, West Alabama is led David Nunez who leads the team in goals (three), assists (two), points (eight), shots (18), and shots on goal (18). Nunez has also scored two game winners this season.

The Falcons and Tigers have faced off 13 times in the past 11 years. West Alabama holds an 8-5 advantage in the overall series and 3-2 record in Livingston. The Tigers defeated the Falcons last year 3-0 in Montevallo. The last Falcon victory came in 2021 at home, while the last UM victory in Livingston came in 2016.

Alabama Huntsville holds an overall record of 1-2-3 and a 0-1-1 mark in GSC play. The Chargers fell to Florida Southern 3-1 to open the season. UAH responded with a 4-0 win over Eckerd to close out the opening weekend. The Chargers followed that up with consecutive 1-1 draws against Palm Beach Atlantic and Georgia Southwestern. The Chargers opened conference play falling to Trevecca Nazarene 2-0, before drawing with Lee 1-1.
The Chargers have scored and allowed eight goals this season. UAH is led by Oli Orzechowski who leads the team in goals (three), points (nine), shots (19), and shots on goal (seven). In goal, Sonny Wright has recorded 12 saves and six goals against in 374 minutes played.
Series History Against Alabama Huntsville:
The Falcons and Chargers have a long history, playing each other at least once every year since 1995. The long game series has been very competitive, as Montevallo holds a 15-14-3 advantage. At home the Falcons have been successful against the Chargers with a 9-3-2 record. Last year's contest ended in a scoreless draw in Huntsville. The last Falcon victory came in 2021, as UM earned a 2-1 win on the road. The last Falcon victory at home in the series came in 2016.
