MONTEVALLO, AL – The Montevallo men's soccer team is set to close the regular season this weekend with a pair of road contests against Mississippi College (11/1) and Delta State (11/3).
So Far This Season…
Montevallo enters the contest with an overall record of 6-6-2 and a 4-5 mark in GSC play.
The Falcons opened the season with a 3-3 draw at Catawba and a 1-0 win over Belmont Abbey. UM returned home and defeated Carson-Newman 4-2, before drawing with Lander 1-1. Montevallo suffered its first loss of the season on Sept. 18, falling on the road to Anderson 5-1. Montevallo opened conference play with a pair of contests at home, defeating Trevecca Nazarene 3-0 and falling to Lee 3-0. Montevallo followed that up with wins over West Alabama (1-0) and Alabama Huntsville (3-1), before dropping contests against West Florida (2-1), Spring Hill (2-0), and Auburn Montgomery (3-0).
Last weekend, the Falcons split a pair of home contests, defeating Union 5-0, and falling to Christian Brothers 3-1.
As a team, Montevallo has scored 24 goals and fired 186 shots, with 83 being on goal. The Falcons have also recorded 22 assists and 60 corner kicks. The Falcons lead the GSC in saves with 81.
Individually,
Cristobal Porter leads the Falcons in goals (five), assists (six), points (16), shots (53), shots on goal (21), and game winners (two).
Mark Shoebridge and
Hugo Cakurda have both recorded three goals, while Shoebridge has also tallied four assists. In goal,
Andre Etcheverry recorded his first two starts last weekend. Etcheverry went 1-1, which included a clean sheet against Union. The sophomore has tallied ten saves and three goals against in 180 minutes played.

Mississippi College enters the matchup 7-4-2 overall and 5-3-1 in GSC play. The Choctaws opened the season with a pair of wins over Texas A&M International and St. Edward's, before drawing with Harding. MC closed non-conference play with a 3-2 loss to then-No. 4 Lynn.
The Choctaws opened GSC play with losses to West Florida and Spring Hill. The Choctaws responded by going on a four-game win streak, taking down Union (3-0), Christian Brothers (3-2), Delta State (2-0), and West Alabama (3-0). MC followed that up with a 2-1 loss to Alabama Huntsville. Last weekend, the Choctaws defeated Trevecca Nazarene 4-2 and drew with Lee (2-2).
Lewis Matton leads the Choctaws and the entire GSC in goals (14) and points (30). In goal, Cole Turner has seen most of the action, playing in ten games. Turner (6-1-1) has tallied 21 saves and conceded eight goals in 804 minutes played.
Series History Against Mississippi College…
The Falcons and Choctaws have played every year since 2017. The eight-game series has been very close, with the record between these two squads sitting even at 2-2-2. Last year's match ended in a 1-1 tie in Montevallo. The last time these two teams matched up in Clinton, the Falcons captured a 5-2 victory.

Delta State holds an overall record of 3-4-7 and a 2-3-4 mark in GSC play. The Statesmen opened the season with a win over St. Edwards and a loss to Texas A&M International. Delta State faced consecutive draws against Saint Leo and Florida Southern, before entering conference action.
The Statesmen opened GSC play with a 3-2 loss to Spring Hill and a 2-2 draw with West Florida. Delta State defeated Union 2-0 and drew with Christian Brothers 1-1. The Statesmen played in one more non-conference contest, drawing with Harding 1-1. Delta State jumped back into GSC play, falling to Mississippi College 2-0. The Statesmen defeated Alabama Huntsville 2-1 and fell to West Alabama 4-2. Last weekend, the Statesmen earned consecutive draws with Lee (0-0) and Trevecca Nazarene (1-1).
Santiago Rossi and Ryan Thistle lead the Statesmen in goals with three apiece, while Chad Hudson has a team-leading three assists. In goal, Mason Baglio (3-4-7) has played every minute this season, recording 46 saves and conceding 18 goals.
Series History Against Delta State…
The Falcons have dominated the series against the Statesmen, holding a 12-1 advantage. Delta State picked up its first win in the series last year in Montevallo. The last time these two squads faced off in Cleveland, the Falcons earned a 2-1 victory.
