Falcons Kick Off Four-Game Home Stand

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo women's soccer looks to rebound from a heartbreaking loss to Union with a pair of home Gulf South Conference contests this week.
 
So Far This Season…
Montevallo has posted a 6-2-1 overall record and a 5-1 mark in GSC play after opening the season with a 1-0 win over Kentucky Wesleyan. The Falcons suffered the first loss of the season to McKendree, 3-2, before drawing with No. 9 Catawba, 0-0, on Sept. 14. To open the conference slate, Montevallo took a dominant 6-2 win over Auburn Montgomery on Sept. 18 before hosting Valdosta State for a 3-1 win on Sept. 21. The Falcons kicked off a four-game road trip with a 1-0 win over West Alabama on Sept. 25 before taking down Alabama Huntsville on Sept. 28. Montevallo went on to add a 5-0 win over Christian Brothers for the fourth shutout of the season. Most recently, Montevallo fell to Union, 1-0, with a UU goal in the final minute for the first GSC loss of the season.
 
Montevallo's attack leads the league with 20 goals this season while adding another league-high 17 assists and posting 140 shots for second in the GSC. The Falcons' defense has held its opponents to just eight goals through nine games for a 0.89 goals against average which ranks second among GSC leaders. The Falcons four shutouts on the season are tied for the second most by a GSC team in 2024.
 
Individually, Isabel Dillehay leads the conference with six goals on the season while Shadia Valenzuela ranks second in the conference with four goals. A trio of Falcons, Morgan Goehring, Raylene Alcaraz and Rilee Bradbury, have all tallied three assists on the season which ranks second among GSC leaders. Montevallo goalkeeper Emily Hounsell leads the GSC with four shutouts on the season while recording 25 saves through nine games.

The Lady Choctaws come into Wednesday's meeting with a 4-1-3 overall record and a 1-1-3 mark in GSC play. MC opened the season with three-straight non-conference wins at Nova Southeastern, Palm Beach Atlantic, and Texas A&M International. The Lady Choctaws opened the GSC slate with a 3-1 loss to West Florida on the road. A pair of draws with Spring Hill and Union left MC without a conference win on Sept. 27. MC earned its first GSC win of the season with a 6-0 victory over Christian Brothers on Sept. 29. Most recently, MC drew with Delta State, 1-1, on Oct. 4.
 
MC ranks third in the GSC with a total of 17 goals through eight games while adding another third-place 11 assists. The Lady Choctaws' defense has been strong with just nine goals allowed for a 1.13 goals against average while adding a trio of shutouts.
 
Magherita Giubilato leads MC attack with four goals and a pair of assits for a total of 10 points. A trio of Lady Choctaws follow behind with two goals each while Karah Boydstun ranks second on the team with six points. In the net, Jessi Carro has played every minute in all eight games for a total of 24 saves and three shutouts with just nine goals allowed.
 
Series History Against MC:
In the short-lived series between the two sides, Montevallo has struggled against MC with a 2-6-0 overall record since the series began in 2014. The Falcons' first win came on Oct. 30, 2018, with a 1-0 win on the road during the post season. Most recently, Montevallo added its second win with a 2-0 win at home on Oct. 27, 2023.
 
Scouting Delta State: WATCH | LIVE STATS
Delta State enters the week with a 1-2-4 overall record and a 0-1-3 mark in conference play. The season opened with a 4-1 loss to Clayton State at home before taking down Missouri S&T, 2-1, for the first win of the season. A 0-0 draw with Texas A&M International came on a neutral site on Sept. 13. The Lady Statesmen opened GSC action with a 1-1 draw against Spring Hill on Sept. 20. DSU went on to fall to West Florida, 3-0, on Sept. 22 before heading to Union on Sept. 30 for a 2-2 draw. Most recently, Delta State drew with Mississippi College, 1-1, on Oct. 4.
 
The DSU attack has struggled in the first month of the season with just seven goals scored on 65 shots with 39 shots on goal. The Lady Statesmen have added six assists for a total of 20 points through seven games. DSU's backline allows an average of 1.71 goals per game with a total of 12 goals and six assists.
 
Individually, Chloe Jackson and Ava Webster lead the way with two goals each while Casey Stadler ranks first on the team with three assists. In the goal, Olivia Griffin and Bailey Daugherty have split time with a total of 23 saves between the two while allowing 12 goals and recording one clean sheet.
 
Series History Against DSU:
The Falcons have dominated the series with Delta State since its inception in 2004. With a 10-3-1all-time record, Montevallo opened the series with five-consecutive victories. In each of the last two seasons, Montevallo has scored two goals en route to a win over the Lady Statesmen. In 2023, Montevallo earned a 2-0 win on Oct. 29 on Varsity Field.
