MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's basketball tallied a 94-65 victory over John Melvin in the Falcons' final dry run before the 2024-25 season tips off.
Montevallo fell behind early with JMU jumping out to a four-point lead in the first three minutes. The Falcons responded with an 8-0 run to take a 10-6 lead just before the first media timeout. Out of the first break, Montevallo went on a 12-3 run highlighted by five points from Jalen Curry over the next four minutes. JMU cut Montevallo's lead down to 22-13 with 11:48 on the clock for the closest the Mohawks would be for the rest of the night. Montevallo nailed back-to-back threes before
Carter Wesson lifted the Falcons to a 14-point lead with 9:51 to play. Montevallo jumped out to its largest lead of the half with a
Brandon Fussell three-pointer with 5:16 to play to give Montevallo a 46-24 lead. Montevallo was outscored 14-11 in the final five minutes of the half to head into the break with a 57-38 lead.

Derek Moore slam opened Montevallo's second-half scoring to extend Montevallo's lead to 20. Save for another Moore bucket, both sides were scoreless heading into the first media timeout. Over the next four minutes, Montevallo went on 10-0 run with six points coming from
Bryson Andrews on a pair of threes. JMU finally broke the run with 12:34 to play but Montevallo still held a 75-41 lead.
Reese Gurner drilled a three at the 9:04 mark to end any hope for a Mohawk comeback. The Falcons held a 30-point lead through the final ten minutes to take a 94-65 win in the final tune-up before the regular season.
