Falcons Face Union in GSC Semifinals on Friday

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo women's soccer heads to Huntsville, Ala. to take on third-seeded Union in the Gulf South Conference Tournament Semifinals on Friday, Nov. 15.
 
So Far This Season…
Montevallo heads into the second round of the GSC tournament with an 11-4-3 overall record after earning the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament with a 9-2-1 conference record. The Falcons opened the season with a 1-1-1 record in the non-conference slate with a win over Kentucky Wesleyan and a 0-0 draw on the road at No. 9 Catawba. Montevallo began the conference schedule with wins over AUM, Valdosta State, West Alabama and Alabama Huntsville before adding a dominant 5-0 win over Christian Brothers on the road. Montevallo suffered its first conference loss of the season at the hands of Union, 1-0, on Oct. 5. The Falcons responded with back-to-back wins over Delta State and Mississippi College before falling to Lee at home on Oct.16. The Falcons added a 3-0 win over Trevecca Nazarene before tying with No. 8 West Florida, 1-1, on the road. To close the GSC schedule, Montevallo topped Spring Hill, 1-0. Montevallo saw a 2-2 draw on the road at Clayton State before dropping a meeting with No. 2 Columbus State on Nov. 6 in the final regular season game. Most recently, Montevallo advanced to the GSC Semifinals with a 4-3 win over seventh-seeded MC with four goals in the second half of the opening round matchup.
 
Through 18 games, Montevallo is averaging 1.89 goals per game with an average of 16 shots per contest and 7.0 shots on goal per game. The Falcons have recorded 27 assists on the season with a total of 117 corner kicks. Montevallo also saw five penalty kicks and converted four of those into goals. Defensively, the Falcons have allowed just 1.11 goals per game with just 10 goals allowed to conference opponents. Montevallo ranks second in the GSC with eight shutouts on the season.
 
The Falcons' attack is led by Shadia Valenzuela with a team-high eight goals to go along with three assists for a total of 19 points. Following closely behind, Isabel Dillehay ranks second on the squad with seven goals while Lainey Farabaugh has added six goals with five of those being game winners. Morgan Goehring, Rilee Bradbury and Raylene Alcaraz sit atop the team with five assists each. In the net, Emily Hounsell has recorded a league-leading eight shutouts while allowing 1.11 goals per game with 55 saves for a .733 save percentage.

Union enters the semifinals with a 10-4-2 overall record after securing the No. 3 seed with an 8-2-2 mark in conference play. The Lady Bulldogs opened the season with a 1-2 record after topping Harding in the season opener. To kickoff conference play, Union defeated Christian Brothers before drawing with Mississippi College and Delta State in back-to-back meetings. Union went on to defeat Montevallo, 1-0, before adding wins over West Alabama and Alabama Huntsville on the road. The Lady Bulldogs added a home win over Spring Hill before dropping back-to-back games to No. 13 West Florida and Valdosta State. Union went on to take down Auburn Montgomery before returning home for a 2-1 win over Trevecca on Nov. 1. Union closed the regular season with a 2-0 win over Lee on Nov. 3. Most recently, Union defeated Delta State, 2-0, in the first round of the GSC tournament to advance to the semifinal round.
 
Union has scored a total of 28 goals through 16 games for an average of 1.75 goals per game on an average of 12.1 shots per game with 8.08 shots on goal per game. The Lady Bulldogs have tallied 22 assists on the season while adding a penalty kick goal on the lone Union attempt. The Lady Bulldogs defense allows an average of 1.31 goals per game with 21 total goals scored by opponents. In the net, Union has recorded six shutouts with a .720 save percentage.
 
Individually, Union is led by Lucia Revuelto and Rebekah Jackson who have both tallied six goals on the season while Revuelto leads the team in assists with seven on the season for a team-high 19 points. In the net, Kirsten LaVallee has carried the bulk of the load with 16 starts on the season while recording 54 saves and finishing the season with six shutouts.
 
Series History Against Union:
Montevallo holds the advantage in the all-time series with an 8-1-0 record against the Lady Bulldogs. Montevallo dominated the series with just two goals allowed to the Lady Bulldogs before the 2024 meeting. The Falcons had won every meeting since 2017 before Union defeated the Falcons on Oct. 5. Most recently, Union defeated Montevallo, 1-0, during the 2024 regular season.
