MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo women's basketball team is set to travel to Rome, Ga., to face off against former-GSC opponent Shorter on Saturday afternoon.
So Far This Season:
Montevallo holds an 0-2 record after falling to No. 16 Nova Southeastern 72-50 and Embry-Riddle 83-61 in the GSC/SSC Challenge last weekend. The opening weekend saw Montevallo average 55.5 points, while opponents averaged 77.5 points. The Falcons are shooting 36.2 percent from the floor, including a 25.9 percent clip from three-point range. Opponents are shooting 54.8 percent from the floor with a 41.2 percent clip from three-point range. Montevallo is also averaging 28 rebounds, seven assists, and seven steals.
Individually,
Lia Edwards is leading the Falcons in scoring (15.0 ppg) and rebounding (6.5 rpg). Edwards scored in double-figures both games and notched a double-double against Embry-Riddle, recording 15 points and ten rebounds. Ramie Reed and
Isabel Grimes also scored in double figures against Embry-Riddle. Grimes leads the team in assists on the season with six, while
Anna Katherine Eastman has a team-leading four assists.

Shorter sits at 1-0 on the season, after capturing a season opening 92-50 win over Oakwood at home. In the contest, the Lady Hawks shot a solid 55.9 percent from the floor, while holding the Ambassadors to 41.9 percent. Four Hawks scored in double figures including, Derrica McCall (23), Tiara Lewis (21), Tori Smiley (12), and Tionna Baker (12). Smiley had a team-high six assists and five steals.
Series History Against Shorter…
Since 1988, the two sides have faced off 25 times with Montevallo holding the advantage over Shorter with a 22-3 record in the series. Last year these teams faced off twice as conference foes. Montevallo captured a 66-57 victory at home, and a 72-67 win in Rome, Ga. Ramie Reed totaled 23 points and nine rebounds in the two contests.
