MELBOURNE, Fla. – For the first time in five years, Montevallo women's soccer will play in the NCAA Women's Soccer National Tournament with a first-round matchup against sixth-seeded Embry-Riddle on Friday, Nov. 22 at 2 p.m.
So Far This Season…
Montevallo enters the NCAA Tournament with a 12-5-3 overall record after starting the season with a 1-1-1 record in non-conference action with a win over Kentucky Wesleyan and a 0-0 draw against No. 9 Catawba. To open GSC play, the Falcons knocked off Auburn Montgomery, 6-2, before taking down Valdosta State, 3-1, on Sept. 21. Montevallo added a pair of wins over in-state rivals West Alabama and Alabama Huntsville before a 5-0 victory over Christian Brothers on Oct. 2. The Falcons suffered the first conference loss of the season at Union on Oct. 5 before rebounding with a 2-0 win over Mississippi College on Oct. 9. The Falcons went on to add a 1-0 win over Delta State before falling to Lee on Oct. 16. To close the GSC schedule, Montevallo topped Trevecca, 3-0, and Spring Hill, 1-0, with a 1-1 tie at No. 8 West Florida sandwiched in between. The Falcons added a 2-2 draw on the road at Clayton State before falling to No. 2 Columbus State in the final regular season contest. The Falcons advanced to the GSC Semifinals with a 4-3 comeback win over Mississippi College on Nov. 10. With a dominant 5-0 win against Union in the semifinals, Montevallo advanced to its second-consecutive conference title game. The Falcons would fall to top-seeded West Florida but would still be selected as an at-large for the NCAA Tournament.
The Falcons are scoring an average of 1.95 goals per game on a total of 319 shots with 140 shots on goal for a .439 shots on goal percentage. With 39 goals on the season, Montevallo has recorded 30 assists for an average of 1.5 assists per game. Defensively, Montevallo allows just 1.10 goals per game with a total of nine shutouts on the season with opponents scoring just 22 goals in 20 games.
Individually, Montevallo's attack is highlighted by
Shadia Valenzuela with a team-high 22 points on nine goals and four assists while
Isabel Dillehay follows closely behind with eight goals and three assists for 19 points on the year. Sophomore
Morgan Goehring leads the Falcons' assists with six assists while scoring five goals for a total of 16 points while Lainey Farabugh leads the GSC with six game-winning goals. In the goal,
Emily Hounsell has played all 90 minutes in all 20 games with 62 saves and nine shutouts while allowing just 1.10 goals per game.

Embry-Riddle holds an 8-7-3 overall record entering the south region tournament after opening the season with a 4-2 record in nonconference play with wins over Chowan, Valdosta State, Rollins and Edward Waters. To open the Sunshine State Conference slate, the Eagles fell to No. 24 Florida Tech, 2-0, before drawing with Lynn, 0-0, on Oct. 2. ERAU went on to add 2-0 wins over Barry and Eckerd before topping Palm Beach Atlantic, 3-0, on Oct. 16. The Eagles took a 1-1 draw against Tampa before falling to Saint Leo, 1-0, on Oct. 23. ERAU upset No. 17 Rollins on the road, 2-1, on Oct. 26 before falling to Florida Southern, 3-1, on Oct. 30. In a late season non-conference meeting, Embry-Riddle dropped a match with Flagler, 4-0. To close the regular season, ERAU tied Nova Southeaster, 3-3, on Nov. 6. The Eagles bowed out of the SSC Tournament with a first-round loss to Saint Leo on Nov. 11 but would still be chosen as an at-large bid for the national tournament.
With 18 games played, ERAU is averaging 1.56 goals per game with a total of 28 goals on the season with a 13.4 average of shots per game. The Eagles have assisted on 25 of their 28 goals this season for an average of 1.38 assists per game. Defensively, the Eagles allow 1.39 goals per game with their opponents scoring 1.39 goals per game on a total of 199 shots with just 94 shots on goal in 18 games.
Individually, ERAU is led by Lauryn Mateo with a total of 22 points on eight goals and six assists while Grace Foyer tallied six goals and three assists for a total of 15 points. Berglind Thrastardottir ranks third on the squad with 12 points on six assists and three goals. In the net, Oona Jokinen has carried the bulk of the load with 18 starts that featured 60 saves and six shutouts.
Series History Against Embry-Riddle:
The two sides have met just once in each of the programs' histories. On Sept. 2, 2018, Montevallo defeated Embry-Riddle, 1-0, in a neutral site bout.
