Box Score MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo women's soccer dropped the final regular season game to No. 2 Columbus State on Wednesday night.
The Cougars drew first blood in the third minute with a goal off a CSU corner. Graduate goalkeeper
Emily Hounsell stopped back-to-back shots in the 11
th and 12
th minutes before CSU added a second early goal in the 14
th minute. Shadia Valenzeula fired the first Montevallo shot of the night in the 24
th minute but was denied by the CSU keeper. Following a
Katelynn Kott shot on goal in the 32
nd minute, Columbus State added a third first half goal on the counterattack. Valenzuela saw a pair of scoring chances in the final two minutes of the half, but the Falcons ended the half trailing 3-0.
Montevallo's
Morgan Goehring took a header that looked to be a sure goal for Montevallo, but a team save from CSU held the Falcons scoreless. Hounsell added a fifth save of the night in the 61
st minute to keep the Cougars from adding onto their lead. Again, Goehring nearly scored the Falcons first goal of the night but was yet again denied by the CSU defense. In the 80
th minute, Columbus State added a fourth goal before scoring a fifth in the 82
nd minute. The Falcons couldn't make up the difference in the closing stages and fell 5-0.
