MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Montevallo women's basketball team closed the GSC/SSC Challenge on Saturday, falling to Embry-Riddle 83-61 inside of the AUM Athletics Complex.

Three Falcons scored in double figures, including Lia Edwards (15), Ramie Reed (14), and Isabel Grimes (13). Edwards added ten rebounds to record the first double-double of the season for the Falcons.

Embry-Riddle opened the game with a pair of layups, before Grimes cashed in on a layup of her own at 7:35 to put the Falcons on the board. Embry-Riddle went on a 6-0 run to take a 10-2 lead, ultimately forcing a Montevallo timeout at the 5:03 mark. Montevallo responded with a 6-0 run of its own out of the timeout, cutting the deficit to 10-8 at 3:31. Embry-Riddle extended its lead back out to seven, but a 6-0 Falcon run, capped off by a Sorrells three-point basket would cut the ERAU lead to 15-14 at the end of the first quarter.

Both teams traded baskets to start the second quarter, as Embry-Riddle held a 19-18 at 8:39. Montevallo jumped out to its first lead of the day, as Anna Katherine Eastman drained a three-point basket and Edwards scored a layup to put the Falcons up 23-19, forcing an ERAU timeout at the 7:34 mark. Montevallo continued to hold its four-point advantage, as an Elisa Saffold free throw kept the Falcons ahead 33-29 with 2:37 left in the half. Embry-Riddle closed the first half with a 7-0 run to take the lead back, 36-33, going into the break.

The Eagles opened the second half with a pair of layups to stretch the ERAU lead to seven, less than a minute into the third period. Montevallo cut the deficit back down to one point, as a Grimes layup and four free throws by Reid and Edwards trimmed the ERAU lead to 40-39 at the 7:16 mark. The Eagles went on another run, extending the lead to 50-41 with 4:53 left in the third quarter. The Falcons fought back, as Grimes scored five of the next eight for UM, cutting the ERAU lead to 53-48 at the 3:08 mark. Embry-Riddle ended the third period on a 10-3 run, taking a 63-51 lead into the final quarter.

Embry-Riddle stretched its lead to 67-51 at the 9:10 mark, but Montevallo responded with a 6-0 run of its own, highlighted by back-to-back baskets for Reid. The Falcons trailed 67-57 with 7:35 left in the fourth quarter. Embry-Riddle responded with a 7-0 run and ultimately outscored Montevallo 16-4 throughout the rest of the contest leading to an 83-61 Eagle victory.
