Falcons' Historic Season Comes to an End

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Montevallo women's soccer's historic season comes to an end with a 3-2 loss to top-seeded West Florida on Sunday evening.

The first 15 minutes of action were a back-and-forth with Montevallo firing the first shot of the day off the foot of sophomore Lainey Farabaugh that led to UWF's first save of the day. Just four minutes later, Morgan Goehring looked to break the ice but missed high. In the 26th minute, Isabel Dillehay nearly beat the keeper with her first shot of the day but was denied before Marica Miljanovic's rebound shot missed high. Graduate keeper Emily Hounsell tallied her first save of the day in the 28th minute to keep the game level at 0-0. The Brighton, England native added a second save in the 36th minute before keeping the game tied heading into the half with both sides locked in a 0-0 battle.

The Falcons drew first blood with Farabaugh finding the back of the net just 59 seconds into the half with the assist going to junior midfielder Bear Bradbury. West Florida would take the lead with back-to-back goals over the next six minutes. Bailey Raphelt's lone goal of the season equalized in the 53rd minute to pull the Falcons back to a 2-2 tie. West Florida took the lead again in the 56th minute. Shadia Valenzuela nearly found the mark in the 64th minute but was denied by the UWF keeper. Hounsell kept the Falcons within one with their fifth save of the night in the 74th minute. The Falcons saw a pair of scoring chances in the 76th minute with back-to-back corners but neither chance yielded a shot. The Falcons saw a final chance in the 85th minute but another UWF save kept the Falcons off the board and ended Montevallo's historic tournament run.
