Women's Basketball Set for Pair of Road Contests in Mississippi

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo women's basketball team travels to Mississippi for a two-game trip this weekend, facing off against Delta State (Dec. 12) and Mississippi College (Dec. 14).

So Far This Season…
Montevallo holds an overall record of 4-3 and a 2-0 mark in GSC play. The Falcons opened the season in Montgomery, Ala., falling to No. 16 Nova Southeastern and Embry-Riddle in the GSC/SSC Challenge. The Falcons split the next two road contests, defeating Shorter 52-51 and falling to Spring Hill 78-69. UM closed non-conference play with a dominant 94-67 win over UT Southern at home.

The Falcons opened conference play last week, picking up a pair of wins. Montevallo emerged victorious in its first GSC contest, taking down No. 15 Lee 67-59 for the highest ranked win since 2021. Isabel Grimes led the way for Montevallo with 23 points against the Lady Flames. Montevallo followed that up with a 57-40 win over Trevecca Nazarene. After being tied 40-40 at the 9:38 mark, the Falcons ended the game with a 17-0 run to preserve the victory. Aubrey Sorrells notched a double-double in the contest with 14 points and ten rebounds. Sorrells was named GSC Freshman of the Week after the solid performance.

Montevallo is averaging 64.3 points per game, while shooting 41.5 percent from the floor, including a 27.1 percent clip from long range. Opponents are averaging 64.3 points per game, while shooting 42.9 percent from the floor, with a 36.0 percent clip from distance. The Falcons are averaging 33.1 rebounds, 10.9 assists, and 7.6 steals.

On the season, Isabel Grimes leads Montevallo in scoring (12.9 ppg), and steals (16). Jordan Gillies leads the team in rebounding (5.6 rpg), assists (27), and blocks (seven).

Delta State holds an overall record of 5-3 on the season with a 1-1 mark in GSC play. The Lady Statesmen opened the season with a pair of wins over Lane and LeMoyne-Owen, before dropping a pair against Henderson State and Arkansas Tech. Delta State closed non-conference play with close wins over Southern Arkansas (42-41) and Harding (64-60). The Lady Statesmen opened conference play last week with a pair of road games. Delta State fell to No. 20 Union 85-59 and defeated Christian Brothers 57-51.

Delta State averages 60.1 points per game, compared to opponents 60.4 points. The Lady Statesmen are shooting 38.3 percent from the field, with a 30.5 percent clip from long range. DSU averages 37.9 rebounds, 10.4 assists, and 6.9 steals.

Individually, Grace Watson leads the way for the Lady Statemen in scoring (10.5 ppg), rebounding (8.9 rpg), and assists (13), and blocks (12).

Series History Against Delta State…
Since 1984, these two squads have faced off 25 times with Delta State holding a 21-4 advantage. These teams split results last year, as UM picked up a 55-53 win in Cleveland and DSU earned a 57-53 win in Montevallo.

Scouting Mississippi College: WATCH | LIVE STATS
Mississippi College holds an overall record of 5-3 and a 1-1 mark in GSC play. The Choctaws opened the season defeating LeMoyne-Owen and falling to Lane in double overtime. The Choctaws responded with three wins over Belhaven, Tougaloo, and Spring Hill. MC closed non-conference play with a 53-50 loss to Henderson State. MC opened conference play last week defeating Christian Brothers 62-53 and falling to No. 20 Union 77-66.

Mississippi College averages 71.1 points per game, compared to opponents 57.3 points. The Choctaws are shooting 44.1 percent from the field, with a 32.6 percent clip from long range. MC averages 41.1 rebounds, 10.8 assists, and 11.5 steals.

Individually, Tiara Abron leads MC in scoring with 13.1 points per game, while Keller Bigham leads the team in rebounding (6.4 rpg), and Tytiana Buckley has a team-leading 19 assists on the season.

Series History Against Mississippi College…
Since 1992, these two teams have faced off 12 times, with the overall series record sitting deadlocked at 6-6. Last year, the Falcons earned a 70-60 win in Clinton, while MC picked up a 75-72 win in Montevallo.
