Great Pitching and Timely Hitting from the Falcons Outlasts Spring Hill in Nine Innings

MOBILE, Ala. –  The University of Montevallo softball team outlasts Spring Hill College in nine innings with outstanding pitching and timely hitting by a score of 5-4.

It was a struggle for offense as both teams combined for six hits in the first five innings of the game. Falcons starter, Rachel Whiddon, was great as she pitched three excellent innings of no run ball while she struck out two batters both looking. Whiddon gave way to Taylor Lloyd who finished the game out for Montevallo. Lloyd's final line was six innings, seven strikeouts and she gave up no earned runs.

In the sixth inning, Montevallo cracked the scoreboard with an RBI ground out from Ansley Hudson. Olivia Bergert scored as she reached base via an error and was moved over with a sacrifice bunt from Ariana Pinder. Spring Hill quickly tied the game up in the bottom half with a lead-off double that came around to score. Both teams were unable to score in the seventh.

For the second consecutive game, the Falcons found themselves in extra innings. With bases loaded and one out, Ariana Pinder came up clutch for the Falcons with a single to right that scored Sydnee Reaves and Lily Stone. The Badgers would force a ninth inning by scoring two unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth.

After a sacrifice bunt from Madison Fargo, Sydnee Reaves would come up with her second bases clearing triple of the series to put the Falcons up 5-3. Spring Hill would bring up the game-winning run but Taylor Lloyd would strike out the final batter of the game for the Falcons second win in a row.
