Gaffney, S.C. – Montevallo women's lacrosse slipped to 1-4 after taking a 6-17 loss to Limestone on Sunday afternoon.
The Falcons opened the game by scoring the first goal for either side. A turnover by Limestone led to a goal at the 11:28 mark, by
Ellery Shearer on an assist from
Kiley Shea. The Saints struck back shortly after. A draw control win by
Mia Black was the precursor for Shearer's second goal in the first seven minutes of the game. Once again, and equalizer was scored by Limestone. Black picked up a ground ball with 3:13 in the quarter which the Falcons took advantage of with a successful clear, and a goal by
Mikaela Barbieri on an assist from Shearer with 2:50 to go. The Saints put in two more goals, before
Jenna Piazza scored a free-position goal in the final 30 seconds of the quarter bringing the score to 4-4.
There wasn't much action in the second period. The Saints added their fifth goal of the game with 12:55 on the clock. The Falcons tied it up at 5-5 on Shearer's third goal of the game, with an assist from Barbieri. Limestone scored 44 seconds later on a free-position attempt, leaving the half with a score of 5-6 in favor of limestone.
The second half was rough for Montevallo, as they were held scoreless in the third, while giving up six goals. The Falcons had eight turnovers in the third quarter.
The final goal for Montevallo came in the fourth quarter. It was the first goal for either team. Barbieri scored a man-up goal with an assist from
Claire Withington with 10:07 to play in the game. Limestone went on the score five times after this goal leaving the scoreboard to show 6-17 at the conclusion of the game.
