Falcons Fall to SCAD-Savannah in Neutral-Site Meeting

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo women's lacrosse dropped its fifth game of the season with a 16-14 loss to SCAD-Savannah in a neutral site meeting on Friday night. 
 
SCAD drew first blood in the first minute of action before Kiley Shea tied the game at one apiece at the 13:34 mark. SCAD added two goals in under a minute before Montevallo freshman Ellery Shearer cut the lead down to one with her first goal of the night. With 6:53 on the clock, Jenna Piazza tied the game at 3-3. SCAD scored two more goals to take a 5-3 lead into the second.
 
The Falcons kept the Bees off the board in the early going of the second before SCAD extended to a 6-3 lead with 11:38 to play in the half. Sophomore attacker Mikaela Barbieri took advantage of a man-up chance with 8:15 on the clock to trim the lead down to two. Moments later, the Bees added an extra-man goal before scoring a second penalty goal with 5:00 left in the half. With just 17 seconds on the clock, Shea found the mark on a SCAD penalty to send the game to the half a just a three-goal deficit.
 
With Montevallo trailing 8-5, Shea's third goal of the game sparked a Montevallo run that tied the game in the first three minutes of the second half. Just over two minutes later, Ally Rich added the second goal of Montevallo's run before Shea's fourth of the day tied the game at 8-8 with 12:02 on the clock. Barbieri gave Montevallo its first lead of the day with 10:38 left in the third before Shearer extended Montevallo's lead to 10-8. Shea's third goal of the quarter added another to the Montevallo's advantage before Chloe Norman's first of the night gave Montevallo a 12-8 lead with 7:10 left. In the final 2:30 of the quarter, SCAD scored three unanswered to cut Montevallo's lead down to 12-11 heading to the fourth. 
 
SCAD knotted the game at 12 apiece with the first goal of the fourth quarter. Shearer broke the tie with her third goal of the game at the 11:17 mark. Following a pair of saves from Mackenzie Griffin, Shea's fifth goal of the game lifted Montevallo to a 14-12 lead with just under seven minutes to go. Following a SCAD goal with 5:18 to play, the Bees added three unanswered goals in the final 2:28 to take a 16-14 win over Montevallo.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST | Montevallo outshot SCAD in the opening quarter with a 9-7 advantage but the Falcons were outscored 5-3 in the opening 15 minutes. 
2ND | The Falcons added a pair of goals in the second on man-up opportunities while taking 10 shots in the second. 
3RD | The Falcons scored seven unanswered goals in the first 7:50 of the third quarter to take a 12-8 lead before the Bees added three goals in the closing stages. Kiley Shea had the hot hand in the third with three goals. 
4TH | After taking a 14-12 lead with 6:59 to play, Montevallo was outscored 4-0 in the final seven minutes of the game. The Falcons took just four shots in the final quarter with SCAD firing ten shots. 
 
GAME NOTES
  • Junior midfielder Kiley Shea set a career-high with six goals on nine shots on goal while adding three ground balls, four draw controls and one caused turnover. 
  • Montevallo outshot SCAD 32-26 on the night with a 25-21 advantage in shots on goal. 
  • The Falcons went just 1-for-4 on free-position shots but took advantage of the Bees' penalties with five man-up goals.
