MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo softball team defeats Christian Brothers 8-4 with a six run sixth inning to take the final game of their three-game series on Sunday, Feb. 25.
In the first inning, Christian Brothers took the early momentum with a long single to the wall in the right center gap where the runner from first came all the way around to score. After a hit by pitch and a single through the left side,
Taylor Lloyd was summoned from the Falcon bullpen where she struck out the first batter she saw, then induced a weak pop up to get out of the inning.
Kendall Channell, who hit a walk-off home run yesterday, hit her second long ball of the weekend to tie the game up at 1-1. The Buccaneers loaded the bases in the top of the third inning with a walk and two hit by pitches. With two outs, CBU grounded into an inning ending play where third baseman,
Madison Fargo, gunned down the runner at first.
The Falcons gained the lead in the fourth inning with second and third, two out.
Maddie Taylor dashed home after a wild pitch got away from the catcher and she slide in safely to take the lead.
In the top of the fifth inning, Christian Brothers took the lead back with a three-run homer after a single and a hit by pitch.
Sydnee Reaves got the sixth started with a double off the right field wall. Reaves moved up to third after a line out to right.
Kendall Channell picked up her second RBI of the day with a single to left field to score Reaves. Two walks loaded the bases for the Falcons then a third walk scored the tying run.
Lily Stone came up huge for Montevallo as she knocked a base hit just by the second baseman to score both
Molly Pendley and
Maddie Taylor. UM would tack on two more runs on a hit by pitch and another walk.
Taylor Lloyd would shut the door and pick up her fourth win of the season as she pitched beautifully in relief, going 5.2 innings with only allowing two hits while she struck out four.
