WINTER PARK, Fla. – The University of Montevallo baseball team dropped both ends of a double-header against No. 2/15 Rollins on Saturday, Feb. 3.
 
Game One

After both teams went 1-2-3 in the first inning, Montevallo took the early lead with an RBI single to left off the bat of Daniel Irizarry scoring Logan Harbin. Rollins bounced back in the bottom half of the second as they put up a four spot on the Falcons highlighted by a three-run shot. Montevallo starter Adiel Melendez settled in after the second as he went four innings while striking out eight batters with only one walk.
 
Ethan Huddleston got the Falcons back on the board with an RBI groundout to score Mitchell Walker. Seth Gurr came in relief of Melendez and threw two scoreless innings. Gurr struck out one and scattered two hits while he walked one.
 
The Falcons bats came alive in the eighth inning with a clutch single for Khalil Bell that scored Aiden Cloud who pinch ran for Luke Mitchell. Wyatt Cunningham came around to score on a throwing error by the Rollins shortstop to tie the game at 4-4.
 
The Tars were able to down the Falcons with a two out, two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth. UM got the lead-off runner on in the top of the ninth but was unable to get anyone across.

• Montevallo had six players who tallied a hit in game one.
• Landon Leake, Khalil Bell and Daniel Irizarry came up big with one RBI a piece.
• Adiel Melendez fanned eight batters.
• Seth Gurr was nails out of the bullpen as he threw two scoreless innings while he struck out one.

 
Game Two
Rollins went ahead of the Falcons early in to begin the game with a five-spot in the first inning behind two homers.
 
Montevallo added a run to the board in the third inning when Christian Kallaher hit a solo homer to left center, his first of the year.
 
Rollins scraped another run across the board in the fourth before adding another five-spot in the fifth.
 
Montevallo added some base runners in the eighth and cashed in when Connor Crowson singled to third base, scoring Wyatt Cunningham.
 
 After Rollins added its 12^th and final run, Zen Hiatt singled for UM to score Payton Stephenson for the third run of the day.

GAME NOTES

• Gino Cozzi earned the start and struck out five over 3.2 innings pitched despite giving up five runs in the first.
• The Falcons totaled five hits in game two with Wyatt Cunningham, Luke Mitchell, Zen Hiatt, Connor Crowson, Barry Eiseman, and Christian Kallaher each recording a hit.
• Hiatt, Crowson, and Kallaher each drove in runs on the day.
• Kallaher notched his first homer of the season.
