MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men's basketball team hits the road this week with a quick trip to Rome, Georgia, Thursday.
 
Montevallo enters the lone game of the week against Shorter, Feb. 8 at 6:30 p.m., on a two-game win streak following victories over Delta State, 77-74, and Mississippi College, 78-68, last week at home.
 
Freshman Brandon Fussell shined during the teams' performance as he led the way with 18.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game which earned him his second Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week honor.
 

With the 2-0 record last week, Montevallo moved back into eighth place in the GSC standings at 8-10 with six games to go. Overall, UM is 9-13.
 
The Falcons have consistently been one of the top scoring teams in the GSC, has fell back to fourth at 80.0 points per game as of late. Despite scoring less points, four of UM's six wins in January and February have come when scoring under 78 points.
 
In the wins against Delta State and Mississippi College, UM's rebounding was the difference. Montevallo totaled a season-high 42 boards against Mississippi College and outrebounded its opponent for just the fifth and sixth time this season.
 
Cam Glover leads Montevallo's offense with 15.8 points per game and ranks in the top-10 scorers of the GSC. Fussell is just behind Glover with 12.2 points a game.  
 
Shorter hosts Montevallo with 1-16 record in conference and a 3-18 mark overall.

13th Meeting | Montevallo leads 10-2
Montevallo is 10-2 against Shorter since returning to the Gulf South Conference in 2017-18. The Falcons won five straight in the series from 2021 to 2022 before falling at home to the Hawks last season, 76-74. In the first matchup of the 2023-24 season, Montevallo defeated the Hawks 86-81.
 
The Falcons are 6-0 on the road in the series since 2017-18.
