Falcons Fall to Flagler in the PBC Semifinals

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's lacrosse closes the 2024 season after falling to fourth-seeded Flagler, 10-6, in the first round of the Peach Belt Conference tournament. 
 
A Flagler turnover in the early stages of the game lead to the Falcons' first goal of the night off the stick of all-conference attacker Matthew Boas with 13:37 on the clock before the sophomore added a second UM goal just 16 seconds later. Montevallo opened up a 3-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game with a man-up goal from Zach Laberge with Boas credited with the assist. The Saints scored a pair of unanswered goals to trim Montevallo's lead down to 3-2 with 8:07 left in the first. With 4:41 on the clock, Laberge found his second goal of the opening quarter to give Montevallo a 4-2 advantage heading into the second. 
 
The Falcons took 2:31 to score the opening goal of the second with Boas tallying his third of the first half. The Saints then rattled off three-straight goals to knot the game at 5-5 with 10:56 on the clock. The Falcons took just one shot over the next six minutes as Flagler took its first lead of the game with 4:45 to play in the half. The Saints added a fifth second-quarter goal to take a 7-5 lead over the Falcons heading into the half. 
 
Flagler opened the second half with five-consecutive shots before opening an 8-5 lead with 9:44 left. Another Saint goal left the Falcons trailing 9-5 with 8:30 on the clock. Montevallo fired five shots on target over the next eight minutes, but each was saved by the Flagler keeper while Alex Egorshin recorded a pair of saves before heading into the fourth quarter. 
 
A goal from Jackson Klewchuk in the first minute of the fourth quarter ended a near 30-minute scoring drought for Montevallo as the Falcons looked the spark a comeback. Flagler's final goal of the night came with 10:09 on the clock to take a 10-6 lead. Montevallo took just two shots over the final 10 minutes before falling in the first round to Flagler, 10-6.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST | The Falcons won five of the seven faceoffs in the opening quarter en route to outscoring Flagler 4-2 in the first 15 minutes. 
2ND | Montevallo took just six shots in the second quarter as the Saints defense forced seven Montevallo turnovers. The Saints score five goals compared to a lone Falcon goal in the second. 
3RD | The Falcons attack stumbled in the third quarter with just eight shots without recording a goal as the Saints added a pair of goals to take a 9-5 lead into the fourth. 
4TH | Both sides scored just one goal in the fourth quarter as Alex Egorshin tallied a trio of saves in the final 15 minutes of the Falcons' season. 
 
GAME NOTES
  • Montevallo closes the 2024 campaign with a 9-6 overall record and a 3-1 mark in conference play in a season that saw the Falcons take the first-ever ranked win. 
  • Montevallo posted strong faceoff numbers yet again with a 13-for-20 mark in the final game of the season. 
  • Montevallo's six goals are tied for the fewest in a single game this season. 
  • Matthew Boas led Montevallo with three goals while adding a pair of assists while Zach Laberge tallied a pair of goals.
