Falcons' Run in Oxford Comes to an End Against West Florida

OXFORD, Ala. – Montevallo's run at the Gulf South Conference tournament came to an end, Monday, in Oxford, Alabama, as the Falcons were eliminated by West Florida, 9-1.

Seth Gurr threw six and two-thirds innings on the mound for the Falcons, including five scoreless frames. After two solo home runs and a RBI double for the Argo's through the first three frames, Gurr settled in and fanned six Argo's over the next four and two-thirds innings to keep the Falcons in striking distance.

Barry Eiseman, who finished 1-for-4 at the plate, lined a single to left field in the third and later scored on a UWF error, putting the Falcons on the board, 3-1.

Throughout the remaining six frames, the Falcons were unable to push any more runs across and left seven baserunners on.

In the eighth, West Florida turned in five runs on four hits and two Falcon errors.

West Florida added a run in the ninth to make the final score, 9-1.

With the loss, Montevallo two-game win streak in Oxford was snapped. The Falcons entered the conference tournament as the No. 5 seed. After dropping game one to Valdosta State, UM bounced back with a 5-1 win over West Georgia and 7-5 win over AUM.
