MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo men's soccer team remained unbeaten on the season after recording a 1-1 draw against Lander on Saturday night.
Montevallo fired quickly to open the game as
Cristobal Porter and
Alex Errasti both recorded shots on goal in the third and fourth minute, respectively. Lander responded in the sixth minute with its own shot on goal, but a save by
Tomas Valles Gilbert kept the Bearcats off the board. Lander would soon find the back of the net with a goal in the eighth minute, taking the early 1-0 lead.
The Falcons struggled to build momentum offensively for most of the first half, taking only two more shots throughout the rest of the period. Valles was stout in goal, coming up with three more saves before the half, including a pair in the 43
rd minute to keep the deficit at one goal at the break.
The Falcons started the second half on the offensive, as
Branko Buljan Ivelich and
Hugo Cakurda both fired shots in the first few minutes. Buljan Ivelich finally put Montevallo on the board with his second goal of the season in the 49
th minute, evening the score at one.
Montevallo continued to press, keeping control of the ball. The Falcons looked to take the lead in the 57
th minute with a shot on goal by Porter, but a save kept the game tied. Both teams traded shots throughout the half, but neither could find the back of the net.
With the game still knotted up at one, Lander received a late corner kick in the 83
rd minute. The Bearcats looked to convert, but a huge save by Valles denied Lander a chance to take the lead.
The rest of the game saw Montevallo take two more shots off target in the final minutes, as the final result proved to be a 1-1 draw.
