Montevallo Heads Out For Two-Game Road Trip

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo women's soccer has their sights set on a pair of road contests against in-state rivals West Alabama and Alabama Huntsville to continue a hot start to conference play.
 
So Far This Season…
The Falcons head into the second week of the Gulf South Conference slate with a 3-1-1 overall record to go along with a 2-0 mark in GSC play. The Falcons opened the season with a shaky 1-0 win over Kentucky Wesleyan at home before falling to McKendree, 3-2, in a neutral-site bout on Sept. 7. Montevallo went on the road to No. 9 Catawba for a 0-0 draw against a top 10 team. The Falcons left no doubt in the GSC opener against Auburn Montgomery with a 6-2 win at home in Montevallo's annual Sea of Purple game. The Falcons followed up with a 3-1 win over Valdosta State in the most recent outing.
 
Through five games, Montevallo has allowed just six goals on a total of 40 shots from opponents with a miniscule 19 shots on goal. The Falcons' backline has pitched a pair of shutouts so far this season with opponents averaging eight shots per game. Offensively, Montevallo leads the GSC with 12 goals and a 2.40 goals per game average. The Falcons are also leading the league with 34 points while adding 10 assists for an average of 6.80 points per game.
 
Individually, the Falcons' attack is led by sophomore Isabel Dillehay coming off her first career GSC Player of the Week honor after scoring her first three goals of the season in the Falcons' last two games. Rilee Bradbury is the Falcons' top point scorer with seven points on the season with a pair of goals and three assists in the first five games. Shadia Valenzuela is the only other Falcon with multiple goals this season. In goal, Emily Hounsell has played every minute for Montevallo while recording 12 saves for a .667 save percentage while posting a pair of shutouts.
 
Scouting West Alabama: WATCH | LIVE STATS
West Alabama hosts Montevallo with a 1-3-1 overall record and a 0-1-1 mark in GSC action. The Tigers opened the season with a 1-0 win over Tusculum at home before falling to Clayton State and Nova Southeastern in back-to-back non-conference outings. West Alabama opened the GSC schedule with a 3-0 loss to Lee on Sept. 20 before taking a 2-2 draw with Trevecca Nazarene on Sept. 22.
 
Through five games, West Alabama has scored just three goals on a total of 38 shots with 18 of those shots on target. The Tigers opponents have scored seven goals on the season with 77 total shots and 34 shots on goal. Defensively, UWA has recorded one shutout on the season and has given up at least two goals in each of the Tigers' GSC contests.
 
Individually, a trio of Tigers in Aileen Charles, Selis Demirci and Abbey Roberts each have a goal under their belt while another trio have recorded one assist so far this season. Dior Wilson has played every game in the net for West Alabama with a total of 27 saves and a .794 save percentage.
 
Series History Against West Alabama:
West Alabama leads the all-time series with a 5-4-3 overall record since 2011. The Falcons won the opening two meetings before going on a seven-game winless streak that spanned from 2013 to 2022. In 2023, the two sides met three times with Montevallo going 2-1 including a 3-2 win in the GSC semifinals on Nov. 9, 2023.
 
Scouting Alabama Huntsville: WATCH | LIVE STATS
The Chargers have posted a 2-3-1 overall record and a 1-0-1 mark in conference play in the first month of the season. UAH opened 2024 with a 1-0 loss to McKendree at home before topping Kentucky Wesleyan 2-0 on Sept. 7. The Chargers dropped consecutive road games at Tampa and Saint Leo by scores of 1-0 in both losses. UAH's opening GSC contest against Trevecca Nazarene featured a 1-0 Charger victory before UAH took a 1-1 draw at Lee in the most recent matchup.
 
The Chargers have totaled four goals through six games this season on 60 shots with 29 shots on target while adding a pair of assists. UAH's defense has been strong with just four goals allowed this season while opponents average 9.7 shots per game and 5.0 shots on goal per game.
 
Sabrina Da Silva leads the Chargers' attack with two goals on nine shots with four shots on goal while Jayla Gillespie and Michella Tortelli each own a single goal. Gillespie and Carley White are the lone Chargers with an assist this season. In the net, CeCe Szopa has played all 540 minutes this season with a total of 26 saves while allowing 0.67 goals per game with a pair of shutouts.
 
Series History Against Alabama Huntsville:
The Falcons lead the all-time series with the in-state rival at a 14-9-3 overall record. The Falcons won five-straight from 2007 to 2011 before going on a four-game winless streak over the next four meetings. The Falcons added three-straight wins over the next three meetings before going 0-2-1 in the last three meetings. Most recently, Montevallo fell 2-1 on the road on Oct. 1, 2023.
