MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo men's soccer team opens conference play this weekend with a pair of home matches against Trevecca Nazarene (Sept. 27) and Lee (Sept. 29).
So Far This Season…
Montevallo holds an overall record of 2-1-2 heading into conference play. The Falcons got off to a hot start, going undefeated through the first four games of the season. Montevallo opened the season with a pair of games in North Carolina where UM drew with Catawba 3-3 and defeated Belmont Abbey 1-0. Montevallo returned home for two matches, capturing a 4-2 win over Carson-Newman and a 1-1 draw with Lander.
The Falcons only saw action once last week, dropping a road contest to Anderson 5-1. In that game,
Cristobal Porter found
Seth Acton for the lone Falcon goal.
As a team, Montevallo has scored ten goals and fired 74 shots with 34 being on goal. The Falcons have also recorded eight assists, 21 saves, and 22 corner kicks.
Individually,
Mark Shoebridge,
Seth Acton, and
Branko Buljan Ivelich have all scored a pair of goals on the season.
Cristobal Porter leads the team in assists (four), points (six), shots (20), and shots on goal (eight). Porter is tied for the most assists in the Gulf South Conference, and the redshirt freshman has already earned conference honors once, picking up GSC Freshman of the Week (9/17). In goal,
Tomas Valles Gilbert has recorded 19 saves and 11 goals against in five games. Valles and
Dawid Adamski have played every minute so far this season.
Scouting Trevecca Nazarene: WATCH | LIVE STATS
GSC newcomer Trevecca Nazarene holds an overall record of 2-2-2. Nonconference play saw the Trojans earn a 1-0 win over Cedarville, a 2-2 draw with Carson-Newman, and losses to Missouri-St. Louis and Freed-Hardeman.
Trevecca Nazarene emerged victorious in its first-ever GSC game, defeating Alabama Huntsville 2-0 at Charger Park. The Trojans followed that up with a 1-1 draw against West Alabama.
Trevecca is led by freshman standout Chris Douglas, who leads the team in goals (four), points (eight), shots (15), and shots on goal (15). Douglas is a two-time GSC Freshman of the Week honoree.
In goal, Adan Gonzalez holds a 2-1-2 record with 16 saves and six goals against.

The Falcons and Trojans have faced off once in 2017. Montevallo came away with a 4-0 win in the neutral site contest.
Scouting Lee: WATCH | LIVE STATS
Lee holds an overall record of 2-2-2. Nonconference play saw the Flames defeat Cedarville and fall to North Greenville, Lincoln (Mo.), and #20 Lincoln Memorial. Lee opened conference play last week with a 3-1 win over West Alabama. The Flames closed the week with a 1-1 draw against Alabama Huntsville.
The Flames have been strong on the defensive end, allowing only five goals in six games (0.83 goals per game). Goalkeeper Jakob Buhrkuhl has played every minute for the Flames this season, recording 19 saves. Offensively, Marlon Grossmann and Ryan Chouyouti lead the team in goals with two, while Grossmann has a team-leading six points.
Series History Against Lee:
Montevallo has played against GSC foe Lee every year since 2015. The Flames hold a 3-1-3 series advantage. The Falcons lone win in the series came the last time these two squads faced off at Varsity Field. Lee won last year's matchup in Cleveland, Tenn., by a score of 1-0, as the Falcons failed to convert on two header attempts in the final five minutes.
Tomas Valles Gilbert recorded nine saves in the contest.
