Falcons Blank the Trojans 3-0 in GSC Opener

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo men's soccer team opened conference play strong, as a trio of goal scorers and a clean sheet led to a 3-0 win over Trevecca Nazarene on Friday evening.

Trevecca looked to get things started with an early shot on goal in the fifth minute, but Tomas Valles Gilbert kept the Trojans off the board with his first save of the night. Valles came up clutch once again, securing back-to-back saves in the eighth and ninth minutes.

Montevallo's first shot on goal ended successfully as Mark Shoebridge found Cristobal Porter, who scored his second goal of the season. Porter gave the Falcons the early 1-0 advantage in the 18th minute.

Montevallo continued to attack in the first period as Will Mashburn and Cristobal Porter fired shots on goal in the 31st and 32nd minute, respectively. The ball found its way in the back of the net 16 seconds later as Hugo Cakurda scored his first goal of the season off of an assist from Porter and Jens Krieger.

Both teams would each record one shot on goal through the rest of the half, as Montevallo took the 2-0 lead into the break.

Both goal scorers from the first half (Porter and Cakurda) continued to attack, each firing shots less than five minutes into the second half. The pair combined for 14 total shots and six shots on goal in a combined 132 minutes played.

The Trojans responded with a pair of shots on goal, but Valles came up clutch once again with back-to-back saves in the 53rd minute.

The Falcons went back on the attack, firing three shots, before one finally found the back of the net in the 66th minute. Julius Rahmig connected with Mark Shoebridge, who scored his third goal of the year to give the Falcons a 3-0 advantage.

Trevecca only recorded one more shot on goal which Valles saved in the 68th minute. The Falcon goalkeeper earned his second clean sheet of the season and added seven saves on the night.
