Falcons Take Down UWA, 83-73, as Moore Sets Career Best

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Montevallo men's basketball snapped a two-game road skid with an 83-73 win over West Alabama on Saturday evening as Derek Moore set a career-high with 28 points.
 
The Falcons jumped out to an early 9-2 lead with a Tyson Sexton triple at the 16:34 mark before Camden Andrews nailed a long-range jumper on the next UM possession to push the lead to 12-4. The Tigers trimmed Montevallo's lead down to one at the 12:17 mark with an 8-3 run before taking UWA's first lead of the day at 18-17 with 12:12 on the clock. Montevallo regained control with Derek Moore's first triple of the afternoon heading into the under-12 timeout. UWA tied the game at 21-21 with 9:24 to play before a 12-0 UM run with seven points from Moore lifted UM to a 33-21 advantage at the 6:32 mark. UWA ended the Falcons' run but five-straight points from Moore gave UM its largest lead of the day at 41-26. Montevallo was outscored 7-2 in the final two minutes to take a 43-33 lead into the locker room.
 
Out of the break, the two sides traded buckets with the Tigers cutting into the lead at the 16:04 mark but Moore continued is strong performance with a triple at the 15:17 mark. Ahead of the first second-half media timeout, Moore scored four more points to lift the Falcons to a 56-43 lead with 12:55 left. Montevallo held around a 10-point lead for the next three minutes until a quick 7-0 run from Jaylen Curry and Jay Gillispie stretched UM's lead out to 15. With 4:42 on the clock, Montevallo took its largest lead of the night off a Curry and-one that gave the Falcons an 18-point lead at 72-54. The Tigers cut Montevallo's lead down to single digits for the final time of the night at 81-73 with 22 seconds on the clock. A pair of Brandon Fussell free throws in the final seconds gave the Falcons an 83-73 win over UWA to snap a two-game skid.
