Late Game Heroics Lead Falcons to 1-0 Road Victory over CBU

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Late game heroics from Seth Acton and Andre Etcheverry led Montevallo Men's Soccer to an important 1-0 victory at Christian Brothers on Friday evening.

Montevallo struck first, as Dakota Hart fired a shot that went wide left in the opening minute. The Bucs went on the offensive, recording the first shot on goal in the third minute, but Andre Etcheverry picked up his first save. The Bucs continued to push early, firing two more shots on goal in the next ten minutes, but Etcheverry remained stout in goal, keeping CBU off the board. The Bucs fired two more shots off target, before UM finally recorded its second shot of the game which came off the foot of Will Mashburn in the 19th minute. After CBU recorded a few more shots, Alex Mueller fired a shot that missed high left in the 38th minute. Christian Brothers looked to take the lead right before the half, but the Bucs shot attempt was blocked, as the game remained scoreless at the break.

Christian Brothers came out of the half firing with the first four shots of the second period, including a shot on goal in the 53rd minute, which was saved by Etcheverry. Dominic Kienzle recorded the first Falcon shot of the second half in the 63rd minute. The Falcons looked to take advantage of a free kick in the 73rd minute which resulted in the first Montevallo shot on goal of the game. Oscar Vallejo recorded the shot on target, which was saved by the CBU keeper. The Falcons continued to push, as Kienzle fired a shot that was blocked, and Tomas Prieto followed that up with a shot on goal in the 78th minute. The Bucs responded a minute later with a shot on goal, but Etcheverry picked up his fifth save to keep home team off the board. Both teams pushed through the final ten minutes, looking to take a late lead in the contest. Seth Acton answered the bell for Montevallo, scoring a goal with 53 seconds left to put the Falcons ahead, 1-0. The Bucs looked to respond, drawing a foul with eight seconds remaining which led to a free kick right outside of the penalty box. CBU fired a shot, but Etcheverry picked up his sixth save to secure the huge 1-0 victory for Montevallo.
