Falcons Close Weekend with 1-1 Draw at Union

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo men's soccer team closed its weekend in Tennessee with a 1-1 draw at Union on Sunday afternoon.

The Falcons struck first, as Seth Acton fired a shot that was blocked in the opening minutes of play. Montevallo recorded two more shots in the next few minutes, before Dominic Kienzle fired a shot on goal in the 12th minute which was saved by the Union keeper. The Bulldogs fired its first shot which was on target in the 18th minute, but Andre Etcheverry kept the Bulldogs off the board with his first save. Dakota Hart recorded the next shot on goal for the Falcons, but the Union keeper picked up a save in the 24th minute. The Bulldogs responded with a pair of shots on goal in the next ten minutes, but Etcheverry remained stout in goal. Neither team recorded a shot on goal through the remainder of the first half, keeping the game scoreless at the break.

Both teams fired shots on goal early in the second period, before Union found the back of the net in the 53rd minute to take a 1-0 advantage. The Bulldogs continued to push, firing another shot on goal five minutes later, but Etcheverry denied Union a chance at extending its lead. Montevallo found its chance to equalize in the 65th minute, as a corner kick from Sebastian Flores ultimately found its way into the goal to knot the score at one goal apiece. The Falcons continued to gain opportunities, as Seth Acton and Victor Flores recorded shots on goal in the next five minutes, but the Union keeper denied the Falcons a chance at taking the lead. Oscar Vallejo added a shot on goal in the 77th minute. The Bulldogs finally went back on the offensive with shots in the 82nd and 83rd minute, before the Falcons regained control offensively.  Montevallo pushed to score in the final minutes, earning three corner kicks, but the Falcons were unable to convert. Sebastian Flores recorded one more shot from distance that went wide left in the final seconds, as the game ended a 1-1 draw.
