MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo men's soccer team opened the last weekend of the regular season with a 1-1 draw against Delta State on Friday evening.
The Falcons went on the offensive early, as
Dominic Kienzle fired an early shot in the opening minute of play. Two minutes later, Kienzle found
Tomas Prieto near the goal who passed it to
Seth Acton who scored his fourth goal of the season, to put the Falcons ahead 1-0 in the third minute.
The Statesmen fired its first shot in the seventh minute which was off target. Montevallo continued to push, as Acton and
Victor Flores fired shots on goal in the next few minutes, but the DSU keeper denied the Falcons a chance at extending the lead. Delta State would record two shots, before firing its first shot on goal in the 24
th minute, but Etcheverry picked up his first save of the contest.
Tomas Prieto responded with a shot on goal in the 26
th minute, but the DSU keeper picked up the save.
Benjamin Williams fired one more shot for the Falcons which was off target, as Montevallo took the 1-0 lead into the break.
Both teams fired early shots in the second half, before Acton recorded his third shot on goal in the 57
th minute. Kienzle followed that up with a pair of shots on goal in the 62' and 65'. The Statesmen recorded a shot on goal of its own in the 75
th minute, which was saved by Etcheverry. Montevallo continued to record shots on target, as
Benjamin Williams,
Dakota Hart, and
Dominic Kienzle fired shots on goal, but the DSU keeper remained stout in goal. The Statesmen began to push in the final minutes looking to find the equalizer. That goal ultimately came in the 89
th minute which sealed a 1-1 draw.
