Trio Named on GSC Newcomer Watchlist; Women's Basketball Tabbed Eighth in Preseason Poll

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Gulf South Conference has released its 2025 Women's Basketball Preseason Poll, with Montevallo voted to finish eighth in the league, while three Falcons were named to the GSC Newcomer Watchlist.

Montevallo captured the eighth-place spot after earning 53 points in preseason voting, trailing eighth-place Mississippi College. Union earned 119 points and ten of the 12 first-place votes to take the top spot in the poll. Lee followed behind with 107 points, while UAH rounded out the top three with 106 points and the remaining two first-place votes.

The 2024-25 season saw the Falcons finish eighth in league play with a 9-13 record. The Falcons fell to top-seeded Union in the GSC Quarterfinals.

A trio of new Falcons were named to the GSC Women's Basketball Newcomer Watchlist including Audrey Hendrix, Elyse Hughes, and Emily Mouser. Hendrix joins the Falcons after spending one year at Neosho County Community College in Chanute, Kan., where she played in 26 games and averaged 8.3 points and ranked second on the team in three-pointers made with 53 on the season. Hughes joins the Falcons after spending three seasons at UAH where she played in 73 games and totaled 311 points, 144 rebounds, 47 assists, 23 steals, and 21 blocks. Mouser comes to Montevallo after attending Madison Academy. This past season, she captured All-State and All-Metro honors, as she averaged 17 points, four rebounds, four assists, and three steals.

The Falcons close the preseason on Monday, Nov. 3 at Samford, before officially opening the season at the GSC/SSC Challenge against Embry-Riddle (Nov. 14) and Nova Southeastern (Nov. 15) in Daytona Beach, Fla.
