HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Montevallo men's soccer team closed its four-game road stretch on Friday evening, as the Falcons remained unbeaten in Gulf South Conference play with a 1-1 draw at UAH.
UAH struck first, firing the first shot in the third minute, followed by a shot on goal a minute later, but
Andre Etcheverry recorded his first save of the contest.
Alexander Mueller fired the first Falcon shot in the fifth minute and
Benjamin Williams provided the first shot on goal in the ninth minute, which was saved by the UAH keeper. The Chargers began to push, firing the next three shots, with the last one being on goal, but Etcheverry denied the Chargers a chance at taking the lead. Montevallo looked to respond, as a free kick led to a
Viktor Willems shot on goal, but the UAH keeper recorded the save. After both teams traded shots through the next few minutes, Montevallo looked to capitalize off a corner kick late in the first half, but a
Dylan Morman shot would miss high left in the 41
st minute, as the contest remained scoreless at the break.
The Chargers opened the second half strong, recording three shots with two being on goal in the first 12 minutes of action. A costly Montevallo foul in the box would lead to a UAH penalty kick in the 61
st minute, and the Chargers ultimately converted to take a 1-0 advantage. The Falcons looked to respond, earning a free kick right outside of the box in the 69
th minute, but Willems shot on goal landed in the hands of the Charger keeper. A few minutes later, the UAH keeper picked up a costly red card in the 73
rd minute, putting the Chargers down a man for the remainder of the match and giving the Falcons a free kick. Montevallo failed to convert on the initial free kick, but ultimately took advantage later, as
Seth Acton found
Tomas Prieto who scored his second goal of the season in the 76
th minute to tie the game at one goal apiece.
Both teams recorded a shot each in the next ten minutes, before the Chargers fired a late shot on goal in the 86
th minute, but Etcheverry would tally his fifth save to keep the game tied. Montevallo quickly drove down the field and
Sebastian Flores recorded a shot that went above the goal post. The Falcons earned a pair of corner kicks in the final minute, but
Oscar Vallejo's shot attempt in the last seconds would miss wide left, as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
