Men's Soccer Set to Host Spring Hill and No. 21 West Florida

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo men's soccer team continues Gulf South Conference play this weekend with home contests against Spring Hill (Oct. 10) and No. 21 West Florida (Oct. 12).

OFFICIAL SCHEDULE

Montevallo enters the week with a 3-2-4 overall record and a 2-0-2 mark in GSC play. The Falcons picked up four points last week with a 1-1 draw at UAH, followed by a 1-0 win at West Alabama. Against the Chargers, Tomas Prieto scored the equalizer to seal the draw on Friday, while Dominic Kienzle scored the game winner against the Tigers on Sunday. Kienzle leads the team in goals (eight), points (17), shots (20), shots on goal (12), and game winners (three). Kienzle's eight goals rank second in the GSC is tied for sixth in nation. Andre Etcheverry had a solid week, tallying 12 saves and one goal against, leading him to being named GSC Goalkeeper of the Week. Etcheverry has played all nine games and 810 minutes in goal for the Falcons this season.

Spring Hill enters the week with a 1-5-1 overall record and a 1-3-1 mark in GSC play.  The Badgers split a pair of contests last week, defeating Trevecca (2-0) and falling to Lee (0-3). Bryce Barrere and Alessandro Merlo share a team leading-three points with a goal and assist. Isa Murati (1-2-1) and Carlos Vargas (0-3-0) have split time in goal, with Murati notching 22 saves, and four goals against, while Vargas has recorded seven saves and ten goals against.

West Florida enters the week with a 6-1-2 overall record and a 3-0-1 mark in GSC play. The Argos picked up a pair of wins last week, taking down Lee (2-0) and Trevecca (4-0). Manu Bernabeu leads the GSC in goals (nine), points (19), and shots (31), while ranking second in the league in shots on goal (14). Tomas Valles Gilbert (5-0-2), has started seven of UWF's nine games in goal, tallying 15 saves and five goals against, while leading the league with three shutouts.

  • Montevallo and Spring Hill have met 19 times, with the Falcons holding an 11-6-2 advantage in the series.
  • The Badgers captured a 2-0 win in Mobile last season.
