UM Heads Back to GSC Title Game After Win Over Mississippi College

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Montevallo women's soccer advanced to its third-consecutive Gulf South Conference title game after taking down Mississippi College, 3-1, on Thursday night.

Montevallo fired the games first shot off the foot of senior Bear Bradbury in the 13th minute before Lainey Farabaugh forced the first MC save of the night at the 15-minute mark. In the 22nd minute, Ayla Ertekin broke the ice and found the back of the net off a pass from Isabel Dillehay to give Montevallo a 1-0 lead midway through the first half. Just six minutes later, Dillehay increased Montevallo's advantage to 2-0 with the assist credited to Elise Marquardt. Montevallo fired just two shots in the final 17 minutes to head into the locker room with a two-goal lead.

Early in the second half, Farabaugh's 12th goal of the season lifted the Falcons to a 3-0 lead in the 55th minute. Katelynn Kott and Lara Brewis looked to beat the keeper with back-to-back shots on goal, but each was turned aside. In the 74th minute, MC looked to spark a comeback with its first goal of the night. UM goalkeeper Ciara Duff tallied her lone save of the night in the 81st minute to keep the Choctaws out of reach. Montevallo saw one last shot on goal in the 87th minute but would come away with a 3-1 win and a ticket to the GSC title game on Saturday.
