Box Score DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Montevallo women's basketball team dropped its season opener on Friday morning, falling to No. 12 Embry-Riddle, 83-38, in the GSC/SSC Challenge.
Jerrilyn Richardson led the way for the Falcons with eight points which included two three-pointers.
Embry-Riddle got off to a blazing start, jumping ahead 12-0, before
Emily Mouser put the Falcons on the board at the 5:38 mark.
Alani Owens added a jumper at 3:43, but the Eagles took a commanding, 24-4, lead at the end of the first quarter.
Mouser found
Carlyn Burdette who cashed in on a lay-in at the beginning of the second quarter and
Olivia Johnigan added a jumper, as the Falcons trailed, 26-8, at the 9:08 mark. Another long Embry-Riddle scoring run through the next five minutes would stretch the ERAU lead out to, 40-8, at the 4:37 mark. Mouser and
Sidney Jones added lay-ins in the next few minutes, and
Audrey Hendrix connected from distance, but the Eagles took a commanding, 48-15, advantage into the break.
Hendrix opened the scoring in the second half with a floating jumper and
Kylee Norman scored the next Falcon basket, connecting from long distance at the 6:50 mark.
Jerrilyn Richardson added a pair of free throws and Mouser cashed in on lay-in, as Embry-Riddle took a, 69-24, advantage into the final quarter.
Elyse Hughes and
Julia Susla etched their names in the scoring column in the fourth quarter, but the No. 12 Eagles would ultimately take home the, 83-38, victory.
