Montevallo Drops 3-1 Decision to Lee in GSC Tournament

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Montevallo volleyball team fell 3-1 to Lee in the Second Round of the Gulf South Conference Tournament on Friday, closing the 2025 campaign with a 15-17 record.

The Falcons opened the match with a strong first-set performance, rallying from a three-point deficit late. After tying the frame at 18-all, Montevallo surged ahead behind kills from Ellise Hanson and Maggie McColley to take a 23-21 lead. Lee fought back to even the score at 24, but consecutive kills from Katie Wilkerson and Eliza Tyrrell sealed a 26-24 victory to put UM up 1-0.

The second set remained close through the early points before Lee used a 6-2 stretch to take a 16-11 lead. Montevallo rallied to pull within one at 19-18 after a service ace from Blakeley Robbins, but the Lady Flames held on to claim the set 25-22.

In the third set, Montevallo briefly grabbed a 10-9 advantage following a pair of Tyrrell kills, but Lee responded with an extended run to pull ahead 17-13. After the Falcons answered with back-to-back points, Lee secured the set on a 7-0 run late to take a 2-1 lead in the match.

Montevallo battled once again in the fourth, erasing an early deficit and later using a 7-2 run, capped by a Hanson service ace, to move in front 16-15. The Falcons held a 19-17 lead before Lee delivered the decisive push, scoring eight of the final 10 points to take the set and the match.

The Falcons' 15 wins this season marked their highest total since 2022, while their 11 conference victories were the program's most since 2018. Two Falcons earned All-GSC honors, as Danielle Greene earned a First Team selection and Ava Wind secured a spot on the Second Team.
