The opening set featured a back-and-forth battle as neither side led by more than two points down the stretch. Tied at 25, Montevallo closed strong behind back-to-back kills from Mae Mae Beatty and Ellise Hanson to take the early 1-0 advantage.
Set two mirrored the opener with tight play throughout. After falling behind 13-8, the Falcons rallied to tie the frame at 18 on a Hanson service ace. The Lady Bucs, however, edged out a 29-27 win to even the match.
In the third set, CBU broke open a tie with a 7-0 run, but Montevallo responded with a surge of its own, pulling within three at 21-18 after a pair of Hanson kills and an ace from Beatty. The comeback fell short as the hosts took the set, 25-19.
CBU carried its momentum into the fourth, racing out to a 7-1 lead and extending the margin to 18-9. The Falcons battled back with an impressive 15-6 run to even the score at 24, but CBU sealed the win with the final two points to close out the match, 3-1.
