MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo men's soccer team is set to open postseason play on Sunday, as the six-seeded Falcons travel to Montgomery, Ala., to play third-seeded AUM in the Gulf South Conference Quarterfinals.
OFFICIAL SCHEDULE
Montevallo closed the regular season with a 5-4-7 overall record and a 4-2-5 mark in GSC play. Last week, the Falcons battled to a 1-1 draw against Delta State, before falling to the top team in the conference, Mississippi College (2-1).
GSC Men's Soccer Yearly Awards were announced this week, as UM's
Dominic Kienzle was named a First Team All-GSC Forward. Kienzle leads the league in goals (11) and is tied for a GSC leading-four game-winning goals. Kienzle shares a team leading-three assists with
Seth Acton and
Tomas Prieto.
Andre Etcheverry has started every game for the Falcons in goal, recording 57 saves and five shutouts, while allowing 22 goals.
AUM closed the regular season with a 9-4-3 overall record and a 6-3-2 mark in GSC play. Last week, AUM fell to Mississippi College (3-2) and defeated Delta State (2-1).
Six Warhawks earned all-conference honors, including first team honorees, Noah Fernandes and Benjamin Hoffman. Fernandes has recorded seven goals and six assists, while Hoffman has eight goals and three assists on the season. In goal, Brock Marlow (6-2-0) has surrendered six goals, while picking up 24 saves and earning four shutouts. Matteo Maccagni (3-1-3) has surrendered seven goals, while recording 16 saves and two shutouts.
The Falcons and Warhawks met in Montgomery earlier this season, with AUM earning a 4-0 victory on Oct. 17. AUM outshot the Falcons 14-11, including a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal.
Seth Acton and
Dakota Hart recorded the lone UM shots on goal. Etcheverry tallied five saves, while facing 13 shots total.
Kickoff at the AUM Soccer Complex is set for 3:30 p.m. CST in Montgomery, Ala.
