FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Montevallo wrestling team turned in another strong performance at the Georgia Open on Sunday, finishing with four placers. Sophomore Cole Hunt led the way with a title at 125, his second of the season.
Hunt continued his dominant start to the year, running through the bracket with five straight wins to stay unbeaten. After opening with a 6-3 decision, he followed with four consecutive pins, including a fall over RJ James (Lander) in the championship bout.
At 285, Willie Cox recorded three falls over Devin Dudley, Jose Flores (Emmanuel), and Brady Comerford (Lincoln Memorial) before earning a 12-11 decision against Seth Tsiams (Southeastern) to take third place. Cox's pin of Dudley in the opening round was the seventh-fastest in program history at 0:34.
Savian Graham added another third-place finish for the Falcons, posting two tech falls against Ayden Lighter (Lander) and Jacob Farthing (Life) in his path to the podium.
Kaden Brown rounded out Montevallo's placers with a sixth-place finish at 141 pounds, tallying five wins on the day, including a 19-4 tech fall over Christopher Puryear (Lincoln Memorial) and a 14-2 major decision against Clayton Hicks (Life).
Max Stedeford made his mark on the Montevallo record books Saturday, first tying Cole Sykes's program record for fastest fall at 0:09, then adding a pin of James Thaxton (Lincoln Memorial) just 14 seconds in for the third-fastest fall in program history.
