INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Montevallo wrestling team wrapped up the opening day of the 46th Annual Midwest Classic with two wrestlers advancing to Sunday's final day of competition.
No. 15 Max Stedeford (149) punched his ticket to Day 2 with a dominant 15-0 technical fall over Shane Hatfield (Fairmont State), followed by an 8-5 sudden-victory win against No. 13 Gabriel Onorato (Glenville State). Cole Hunt (125) also secured his place on Sunday after going 3-1 on the day, highlighted by his 11th and 12th pins of the season. Hunt sealed his advancement with a 15-9 decision over Roberto Estrada (Western Colorado).
Carson Freeman (157) picked up a pair of wins on the day, while Willie Cox (285) turned in a strong performance with three victories. Jake Chisolm (165) and Jeffery Tubbs (184) each made their 2025–26 season debuts, combining for five wins. Chisolm went 3-2, while Tubbs earned two victories, including a pin of Josue Mendoza (Emmanuel) at the 4:34 mark. Kaden Brown added to the Falcons' win total with a 10-3 decision over Ashtan Hendricks (King).
Stedeford and Hunt will continue their runs in Indianapolis on Sunday. Stedeford is slated to face No. 5 Ethen Doty (Upper Iowa) in the quarterfinals, while Hunt returns to the mat against Mason Gutenberger (UMary).
