Box Score JACKSON, Tenn. – The Montevallo women's basketball team closed the weekend, falling to (RV) Union, 82-53, inside of Fred DeLay Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
A pair of Falcons reached double figures, as both Alani Owens and Emily Mouser led the way with ten points apiece.
Union came out strong, opening the game with a 7-0 run. Emily Mouser scored the first UM field goal, connecting from long range at 6:09. Carlyn Burdette and Elyse Hughes made buckets in the next few minutes, but Union stretched its lead out to double digits, 19-8, at the 2:55 mark. The Falcons cut into the deficit, as Mouser cashed in on an and-one and Olivia Johnigan added a lay-in. Montevallo trailed, 19-13, with 1:07 left in the opening frame. The Bulldogs scored a pair of baskets and Kylee Norman went 2-for-2 from the charity stripe in the final minute, as Union held a, 23-15, lead at the end of the first quarter.
Alani Owens started the second quarter strong, scoring the first seven UM points, as the Falcons trailed, 26-22. Johnigan added a jumper to make it a one possession game, 26-24, at the 6:30 mark. The Bulldogs responded with the next five points before Burdette hit her second triple, as the Falcons trailed, 31-27, with 3:47 left. Union closed the half with the final five points to take a, 36-27, advantage at the break.
Union opened the second half strong with the first six points, before Audrey Hendrix connected on a triple at 8:21. Kylee Norman added a jumper a minute later, but Union took full control, closing the third quarter with a 17-0 run to take a, 65-32, lead into the final quarter.
The Falcons continued to fight, as a Jerrilyn Richardson three-pointer sparked a 7-0 Falcon run to start the fourth quarter. Union halted the Montevallo run with a lay-in, but a UM 6-0 run highlighted by a three-pointer from Owens would cut the deficit to, 67-45, with 3:54 left in the contest. Union closed the game strong, ultimately taking home the, 82-53, victory.
