MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's basketball opens the conference schedule with a road trip to Lee and Trevecca Nazarene for the first two games of the Gulf South Conference schedule.
OFFICIAL SCHEDULE
The Falcons enter the week's contests with a 3-2 record in the non-conference schedule after opening the season with a win over Barry on Nov. 14. Montevallo would then fall in back-to-back games after falling to No. 1 Nova Southeastern and taking a 74-73 loss on the road at Georgia Southwestern. Montevallo's home opener featured a dominant 94-70 win over Fisk before picking up a 90-68 victory over Spring Hill on Nov. 26.
Through five games, Montevallo averages 82.6 points per game on a team field-goal percentage of 46.1 percent while adding a 30.9-percent mark from the three-point line and an 83.1-percent clip from the charity stripe. On the glass, Montevallo averages 36.2 rebounds per game while dishing out 16.8 assists per game and recording a league-high 10.6 steals per game. Defensively, Montevallo allows just 73.6 points per game on a 41.1-percent shooting mark from opponents while giving up 39.0 rebounds per game.
Montevallo's offense is led by senior forward
Derek Moore who scores 19.4 points per game on a team-high 70.6-percent from the floor while also leading the team on the glass with 5.8 rebounds per game. Freshman guard
Devon McKinnon ranks second on the squad with 15.4 points per game on 37.7-percent shooting while picking up 3.2 rebounds per game and 2.0 assists.
Brandon Fussell leads the team in the assist category with an average of 6.4 assists per game while scoring 14.0 points per game on a 42.4-percent mark from the field.
Lee enters the week with a 3-1 overall mark after topping Dalton State on Nov. 8 before picking up an 83-60 win over Lindsey Wilson College on Nov. 17. The Flames then added an 83-81 win over Wingate before falling to No. 19 Lenoir-Rhyne, 101-64, on Nov. 22. Lee closed its non-conference schedule with an 81-64 win over Claflin on Nov. 25.
Through four games, Lee averages 77.8 points per game on a 46.4-percent mark from the field while shooting 36.0 percent from long range and 75.7 percent from the free throw line. On the boards, Lee averages 33.3 rebounds per game while adding 17.3 assists and 7.8 steals in its nonconference action. Defensively, Lee allows 76.5 points per game on a 47.6-percent mark from the floor while allowing 33.0 rebounds per game, 16.3 assists and 7.3 steals per game.
Lee is led by Tylon Chatman who averages 14.3 points per game on a 39.6-percent clip from the floor while adding 3.0 rebounds per game. Dayveun Anderson and Zach Gray each rank second on the squad with 13.3 points per game while Gray leads with a 47.5-percent shooting mark and Anderson holds a 45.7-percent clip.
Trevecca Nazarene enters the week with a 4-1 overall mark in nonconference play after opening the season falling to Palm Beach Atlantic on Nov. 15. The Trojans added an 88-82 win over Embry-Riddle on Nov. 16 before topping Oakwood on Nov. 19. TNU picked up a 98-72 win over Tusculum on Nov. 22 before topping Lane, 89-72, on Nov. 25.
The Trojans average a total of 92.4 points per game on 49.7-percent shooting with a 40.6-percent clip from the three-point line while shooting 80.3 percent from the stripe. On the glass, Trevecca Nazarene averages 37.2 rebounds per game while adding an average of 17.6 assists and 8.2 steals per game. Defensively, TNU's opponents shoot 41.8-percent from the field for an average of 78.4 points per game while pulling down 38.4 rebounds and dishing out 15.0 assists per game.
Individually, Fred Bailey leads the team with an average of 15.6 points per game on a 58.3-percent mark from the floor and an 80.0-percent clip from the free throw line while averages 6.6 rebounds per game. Brett Wright ranks second on the squad with 14.2 points per game on a 44.7-percent shooting mark and a 48.5-percent mark from long range while adding a 92.9-percent mark from the charity stripe.
